Honest Question /vr/. When will newer years be added to to this board? I mean, I like this place much better that /v/ and I got to play a lot of games I didn't know exists because if this place. But I also wanna talk about games from the gba and ps2/gamecube/xbox and stuff like that.

So /vr/, when would this happen? Or will /vr/ always be about games that date back to 1999 and below?

Probably around 9th gen IMO.

>> No.1047319

The sticky used to be 2001 until some faggots realized that included Halo, so they started spamming ironic MLG420MtnDew Halo threads.

Shut the fuck up

Dunno, can you honestly say San Andreas is a retro game with a straight face?

>> No.1047331

I don't think considering something "retro" is always exactly a matter of time that's passed. It's the feel that a major era has passed; that something has changed so fundamentally that shit is totally different.

Personally, I think November 14, 2001 would be fine. The day before Halo dropped.

>> No.1047335

when ps4 and xbone comes into full force, then finally the glorious dreamcast will be discussed here

>> No.1047332

>wah wah wah /v/ isn't fun why can't we talk about everything here

>> No.1047336

OP here.

I just wanted to have a creative and proper discussion of games for the gba, ps2 and gamecube.

I don't really care for xbox since i didn't own one ever and i never got to play it with any of my friends in their place. Nothing personal, just something I thought I'd say for those anons who really dislike the xbox.

I just wanna talk about the first Kingdom Hearts and .hack// games and stuff..

perhaps.. by next year? if not the year/years after that?

>> No.1047338

It'll never happen.

You know why? One word: Halo.

Have it up to 2001 or 2002 but with the exception of Halo, like how it's currently 1999 with the exception of the DreamCast. Halo really was a game changer.

>> No.1047349

include anything up to 2001 while having halo blacklisted.

>> No.1047353

moot has said at least a couple times that the deadline is going to be played by ear. Basically it'll be moved "when it feels right."

>> No.1047357

I'm probably an idiot for asking.
But, what specific reason is there that people in this thread dislike halo? And why is it a "game changer".

Is it the game that introduced what people call "dude bro"? or was it that game that just changed the community of gaming because it introduced newer, younger probably even annoying audience into the gaming community?

Or is it something completely different?

It's pretty much all the reasons you said. Or a combination of them. Also it's the game that sticks out the most whenever anyone thinks of the sexbox.

This. It shouldn't be moved up until the end of this new generation.

>> No.1047378

i don't think there is much to discuss about halo, shit was boring for me, i expect at worst a /vg/ style thread like the doom one with occasional threads about someone bragging a steamroll or trolling which will be deleted on sight

>Is it the game that introduced what people call "dude bro"?

Not quite introduced it, but definitely brought it to the forefront. It was always simmering in the background due to Madden, but Halo made it explode. There's a marked shift in the demographics across all genres after Halo proved you didn't need sports games to make serious bank off of those guys.

>or was it that game that just changed the community of gaming because it introduced newer, younger probably even annoying audience into the gaming community?

Eh, not quite. There's always sort of been that stupid "HARDC0RE L33T HEDSHOTZ! OWN3D OWN3D OWN3D OWN3D" underaged portion of any FPS game. I remember Quake and CS kiddies being pretty fucking bad before Halo.

That's why the rule saying you could post up to 2001 was very, very, very brief. Loads of shitposting.

No, I can't. But I can say that the GameBoy Advance and the GameCube feel retro.

The PlayStation 2 and Xbox 1 not so much. I'd be fine if the rules were expanded to allow discussion of the GC and GBA.

>> No.1047413

>>1047401
The ps2 came out before the gamecube

If /vr/ included ps2 and gamecube it would quickly devolve into /v/ quality. Sorry people complaining about the 1999 cutoff that grew up on ps2/gamecube/xbox but that's what makes this board different than /v/.

>> No.1047417

I don't think it should ever change, except for inclusion of the Dreamcast. I also wouldn't mind GBA in a couple years, but anything else right now is fine on /v/. inb4 nothing is fine on /v/

>>1047319
Wow. I feel bad for Sega fans who lost their Dreamcast because of that. I'd go with >>1047341, excpet I'd rather not have the Gamecube in there. It still feels rather new.

Why can't we just have a list for what specific consoles are and aren't allowed, with a blanket statement also allowing any console from before 2000 (so that any obscure retro consoles don't get banned; I can't imagine anyone discussing the Wonderswan, but if they did they should be allowed since it was 1999)?

I know that, but because of how Nintendo failed to appeal to third parties with the GameCube the games that came out for it feel more retro than those that came on the PS2/Xbox.

I mean you have games like Super Mario Sunshine, Star Wars: Rogue Leader II, Metroid Prime, etc. These all feel like retro games.

As for the GameBoy Advance, come on, you can't tell me that isn't retro yet. It is the last of the GameBoy line, we should be able to discuss it here.

>> No.1047453

I've said this before, but the sixth generation was already so technologically advanced that it will never be retro in my book. During/after that, consoles (especially by Sony/MS) became full time wannabe computers with DVD drives, identical controllers, network adaptors and shit. Companies going nuts over multi-platform licensed games and/or poor man's FPSs didn't help either.

>> No.1047461

>>1047453
What about the GameBoy Advance?

>> No.1047469

>>1047426 how is metroid prime retro? I can kinda see rogue leader and sunshine since they feel like well made n64 games with better graphics but metroid prime was the first FPS metroid. Not retro at all.

I also would like to discuss dreamcast here as well. I feel it will be included once the ps4 launches

If it were up to me, retro would be a term reserved for 20 year old games or older.

>> No.1047474

The problem with /v/ and /vr/ is that it doesn't address certain retro style games and early 2000's games are just lost altogether.

No idea how you address any of that.

>> No.1047476

>>1047453

I agree with this. It's no wonder after the N64 I switched almost entirely to PC gaming and only played some of the better quality console games.
