This game taught me that pain is a good thing.
Also post/ recommend difficult action games ITT

Already done.

Spikeout and Slashout are probably the most difficult ones I've played.

I think Chain Dive has kind of a similar feel to Shinobi. It's not like super hard or anything but it's pretty fun and unique.

Not very many like Shinobi. The difference is the game prioritizes swift movement like an action platformer over the linear combo trite that DMC3 adopted. You might want something like Maximo or Chaindive. Perhaps Urban Reign. Nothing will scratch the Shinobi itch.

On a regular playthrough the only really difficult part is the awful platforming in the last level.
But if you want a real challenge, go for all the collectibles. There's a lot of them and some of them are a real pain in the ass to get.

Its fun to play it in 2023 and see how much of its DNA made it into Bayonetta

The Otogi games by FromSoft are really interesting in how they are intentionally floaty, your jumps put you in the air for a while and your midair attacks keep your there, while you can knock enemies away through destructible stage elements. Always thought it would be a decent formula for a single-player DBZ game.

>>10461173
Ironically Hibana from Nightshade probably only got into Project X Zone 2 because of Bayonetta being blocked from inclusion, and she happened to fit the "female SEGA solo action hero with air combos" mold perfectly while coincidentally being connected to Hotsuma who was already playable.

I finished this game not too long ago. I honestly had no problem till the final stage and boss. Water level killed me a few times but other than that, it was pretty fun. Final boss can suck my dick though.

Genuinely don't know what they were thinking with some of those design decisions. It's just one big pile of fuck. The rest of the game is pretty damn good but the final boss just sucked the soul out of my body.

One of the best action games on NES

Awesome, I was really hoping a thread like this would appear. I remember hearing about a lot of these games and want to revisit them someday.
So I gotta ask, did Cuhrayzee generals eventually die? I know that's more of a /vg/ question but so many games in that category definitely apply for this thread.

Actually, I'd appreciate recommendations for games that reward good timing and simple execution over absurd combo strings. I really liked the original Devil May Cry because the theming was pretty good and some of the cooler things you could do involved shotgun blasting enemies at point blank for a quick kill if you caught them during an attack. Absolutely loved the repeat boss encounters too as it gave the bosses more time to have a personality.

>Otogi games
I know AGDQ is cancer (didn't even mean for a pun but that's life sometimes) but I saw the Otogi run from a few years ago live and it was actually really interesting and the guys running it clearly were having a lot of fun.

Up until that final boss, there was no enemy that would cause you to miss a swing when you're up in their face. Those fucking card things were annoying as hell with their hurtboxes and how easy they could hit you man.

>> No.10466000

>>10465945
Arguably the worst part of the fight. I can deal with getting cucked last second and losing the Tate. I can deal with the boss teleporting to me and eating half my health. I can't take losing my Tate to the fact that not a single enemy nearby is willing to allow itself to be hit by me.

>> No.10466246

>>10466000
I could even accept if they were not allowing themselves to be hit by me... if such an enemy was introduced earlier in the game. As the first time to have an enemy pull that bullshit and it be during the last boss who was already a pain in the ass, shit was frustrating. Nice trips.
