10457537 No.10457537 [Reply] [Original]

Super Mario Bros. is the true beginning of the Mario franchise as a whole. Also a typical No Skills Required type of 1P adventure/platformer game where Peach always gets kidnapped by Bowser so that Mario has to save her.

sad fact: super mario bros 1 couldn't be made today cuz of feminism

>> No.10457547

because of Peach's role in the original games as a damsel in distress.

lol. Anyway, what’s happening to Mario here and what is someone doing to his body?

Sexist games like this should be de-listed and forgotten. It's time to move on, people.

Super Mario Bros. 1 is a sequel. The red metal platforms are supposed to be a reference to Donkey Kong. The pipes are supposed to be a reference to Mario Bros. This is how the game was conceived, as a continuation of the previous entries. It's about Mario and Luigi entering a fantasy land, which was completely new for the series.

source? sounds like revisionist history where every little happenstance thing is dissected by nintendrones and retconned to be 2secret4me

So who the fuck were the turtles they were killing in Mario Bros then? Was that a game about murdering actual turtles in a real life sewer?

Well, no.
Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. were very popular games.

Donkey Kong has anthropomorphic flames straight out of the old Disney and Fleischer cartoons from the 30s. It's not completely unreasonable.

I wonder if Bowser’s fireball hit Mario or if it’s someone else hitting him lol.

Donkey Kong was the beginning of the "Mario" franchise.

Super Mario Bros. was the beginning of the "Super Mario" franchise.

Mario was too unknown when he first appeared in Donkey Kong. He was originally known as Jumpman whose only power up was a Hammer. Wasn’t until he got his own series that he became a breakout character for the 1980s.

Big Bowser, something close to 16:9 aspect ratio, arrows under the high platform that look like they're part of an editor... is this a Mario Maker screenshot? If so, maybe you only posted it on this board by mistake, instead of on the more appropriate board, /x/?

this is the real Super Mario Bros. 1 on the NES.

>Though the protagonist was unnamed in the Japanese release of Donkey Kong, he was named "Jumpman" in the game's English instructions and "little Mario" in the sales brochure. Miyamoto envisioned a character to be used in every game developed by Miyamoto; a "go-to" character who could be placed into any game if needed, albeit in cameo appearances as Miyamoto did not, at the time, expect the character to become singularly popular. To this end, he originally named the character "Mr. Video", comparing what he intended for the character's appearances in later games to the cameos that Alfred Hitchcock had done within his films. In retrospect, Miyamoto commented that if he had named Mario "Mr. Video", Mario likely would have "disappeared off the face of the Earth."

You are severely underestimating just how popular Donkey Kong arcade was. He was known enough where he being thrown in countless games, like Mario Bros and Wrecking Crew, and was appearing in Game & Watch titles before SMB broke out.

Maya from Killer Instinct 2 (or possibly KI Gold). She's coming back from a high kick. You can see it in this spritesheet, maybe 30% of the way down. Look for the first row in which she is kicking rather than knifing or whatever. I don't know why she is in the Mario image. It probably has to do with something unique that was hardcoded into the one-of-a-kind Super Mario Bros. cartridge that OP was playing when the screenshot was taken.
