Yet the greatest games on PlayStation (Gran Turismo 2, Tekken 3. Crash Team Racing etc) looked better than the greatest games on the N64.

I never understood why this was.

Textures take up space and space wasn't free on N64 carts. Also the hardware anti-aliasing on N64 was aggressive to the point that all textures were muddied anyway.

The N64 was able to produce smooth looking 3D acceleration textures vs the PS1’s "software mode" graphics. That’s pretty much it.

ocarina and majora are still the most impressive games of that entire generation in terms of scope and scale, but they still suffer from poor framerates, especially majora

It was a little more powerful on the 3D end especially with the expansion pack. Full-motion video and CDDA audio are where it suffered, along with lack of 2D games
