If you had to have only one console/device to play retro games, which would it be?
I do not regret buying a hacked pic related with just a gamecube controller.

Definitely Wii for the native 240p. If you're not playing on a CRT then you might as well emulate on PC. Putting RetroArch on a modern console is the most pointless thing imaginable.

>> No.10455717

I've tried that before but the composite on the expensive adapter I bought was absolute dog shit and component kills the soul, so will never try. The Wii's composite output is God-tier. I've compared a Genesis side by side with it (Sonic waterfall of course), and I might actually give the edge to the Wii. The 240p adapter I bought for PC couldn't even get the waterfall right. I had the right video card and drivers, etc, it was just shit.

I emulate with a PC on a CRT TV over RGB using a filter, looks like composite but without any of the interference and quality loss of the cable and encoder/decoder.
Plus I can tweak or change it at any time.

As in really shitty ones I mean and the interference they are sustainable to. Encoding to composite gives effect, didn't mean it removes that.

As someone who has emulated SNES anf PS1 on the wii, lemme disprove this, the buttons are pretty stiff anf dont feel good with platformers, the Snes mini controller on the other hand feels godly for every system that only uses 2 shoulders and 2 face buttons, specially when emulating GBA.

>> No.10455897

>>10455742
It was just some custom build everyone was hyping up at the time. I know I'm being autistic here but the Wii does have really good composite output that's worth checking out at some point if you haven't already. For most of the systems it can't emulate, I'd probably want to play them on PC to raise the resolution and such anyway, so it works out.

How is the state of emulatiom om the wii as of current 2023?

>> No.10456114

>>10456006
its about the same as it was in 2k19. nothing really new, accuracy is decent on snes9x and its fast. N64 has had no progression at all since 2k21 so its dead in the water, VC injections may or may not work. PS1 emulation hasn't been updated since the wii was commercially relevant.

>> No.10456602

>>10456114
Actually PS1 emulation has actually gotten notably better this year, but it's still pretty spotty. You can play some 2D stuff pretty reliably at least. In terms of consoles I'd rank the emulation:
>Exceptional: NES, Genesis/CD, SMS, MSX/2, GB/GBA
>Great: SNES, TG16, Neo Geo + other supported arcade roms in FBA
>Solid: ScummVM, DOSbox, PS1, Amiga
>Don't bother: N64, Saturn, MAME, DS, CPS3, anything else
Keep in mind you do have to fish around a bit, some platforms will be better through retroarch cores, some shine through standalone emus. Besides here GBAtemp is the other place that keeps up with Wii homebrew so consult there to be totally sure.
