Never played Soul Hackers 2. I would play it if given the chance, but I remember being disappointed by the trailer a bit, maybe it was the edition itself, but it didn't look too exciting... for a SMT game anyway. Also not having the original cast... how does it fare for fans of the original?

I can't speak about SH2 because I haven't played it, but SH the original was already the 2nd game in a SMT spinoff, called Devil Summoner. DS1 and DS: Soul Hackers are both pretty much your typical first person megaten dungeon crawler with all the same familiar things from mainline, from recruiting demons to moon phases to fusions to the feared magnetite summon system. The difference here is that DS games are a bit more story-driven than mainline? Not sure what really sets apart this spinoff.
But anyway, after SH1 the next Devil Summoner games were the Raidou games, which have real time battles
