The original CPS versions are probably better. If you like those, check out D&D: Tower of Doom and Shadows Over Mystara. You might like their fantasy platformer Magic Sword as well, or I guess Willow

Those are awful. Check out Final Fight or Bad dudes if you want to know what beat em ups are all about.

knights of the round was great in the arcade till a friend took me to the end of the game and revealed that you have to be a very proficient gamer to ever be able to save up enough lives to beat that guy. Repetitive bosses too if I recall

Final Fight is good (especially the CD port) but I think the D&D games are closer to what OP posted. Bad Dudes I have never played

King of Dragons was more like Kino of Dragons, in that it was very enjoyable. My first exposure was the SNES game so I didn't have the arcade original to compare it to, but it was a lot of fun regardless. Looks pretty good for an SNES game, though as with a lot of arcade ports, I wish they'd done more to justify its existence beyond making it a slightly dumbed down version of the original arcade game

Final Fight has great mechanics but utterly shit balancing. Impressively cheap bosses.

One of my contrarian opinions is that the D&D Capcom games are kind of overrated. I played the rerelease a few years back and online was unplayable because everyone would just pick the wizard guy and spam spells (which freeze the action)

Anyway, KoD and KotR are both good ports of good games. They were released right around the same time which is weird because they are so thematically similar. I remember NP reviewing them both in the same issue and I'm sure that was the case in other mags as well.
Both these games really crystalize what I like about this era. I rented most of the games I played and stuff like these two games might have made a slightly disappointing 70 dollar purchase...but made a killer weekend rental. And the SNES library was filled with this kind of stuff, especially in 1994.

I don't think I've ever seen SoM Thief fanart that looks even half as hot as the original.
