NES & SNES games look ugly in 4:3 aspect ratio

you could've just said you think NES and SNES games are ugly

>> No.10448392

They look ugly in other aspect ratios too thanks to the washed out and anemic colour palettes.
Has Nintendo ever produced a console that actually has aesthetically pleasing graphics?

not the fault of the aspect ratio.

Why NES and SNES games specifically?

>> No.10449024

>>10449006
Because nes/snes games render at 8:7 and stretch to 4:3. The console was designed this way and in 95 percent of games the art assets were designed with this in mind.

He’s saying playing at the unintended actual aspect ratio is superior to the 4:3 aspect ratio the consoles display because he’s a huge fag.

I guess if you only play first party games, all non-nintendo games look like those fake video games you see in movies, even multiplats have that weird lighting

>> No.10449568

>>10448629
Oh was it? So you're just guessing what it would look like? Neat, I can guess too! I think it would have shitty textures, little to no lighting or particle effects, and have a gross green tint over everything, since those were issues that plagued the GameCube in most of it's other games.

>> No.10449584

If 4:3 is allegedly so bad, explain why it was the standard format for classic cinema. People in the past weren't dumb, they didn't just randomly select whatever they first felt like.

>> No.10449604

>>10449471
Shit like the morphball in Super Metroid tells me that random autists on the internet think and care way more about this than anyone at Nintendo ever did.

It's not like square pixels weren't a thing. The Game Boy, released in 1989, uses square pixels, and they were so proud of it they advertised it on the front of the console itself.

And with the tile-based graphics of a platform like NES or SNES, while it's possible to take 4:3 stretching into accounts for things like title screens, cutscenes, etc doing the same for background tiles is virtually impossible. This is why people always use the Chrono Trigger moon as an example, but if you take circles in the background, they're only circles in 8:7; precisely because they didn't really have a choice. Meaning that the reality is that within the same game, some things will take 4:3 stretching into account, while others won't.

>> No.10453263

>B-but the moon in Chrono Trigger!
>That's not a perfect circle for Samus's morph ball!!!
Don't care, I just play it all in 4:3. Aspect ratio autism for SNES and PS1 is a hole that never ends and there is no one size fits all solution. I simply chose not to play. 4:3 is more than good enough.
