>takes like 10 (or less) minutes to enter mumbo's mountain
>takes AT LEAST 45 minutes to enter mayahem temple.

What were they thinking??

Yeah I want to keep the original game in good memory so I dropped this. All I saw in the first hour was characters unnecessarily dying in cynic ways, huge empty areas and some weird ghost town which I guess you can fill with the generic collectathon dragons (for whatever purpose)

Rare lost their mojo after Banjo 1. Perfect Dark is nice and all but it also doesn't have 1% the charm of Golden Eye

They made it an epic adventure game. First game was just SM64.

Stupid arbitrary Klungo boss fight and excessive cutscenes are mostly to blame, iirc you have to go to Jingaling's lair and Bottles' house or whatever too, but it's fun once you get past the introductory sstuff

Just skip the cutscenes?

Absolutely loved BK1, and even 100% completed it. But BK2 got me fucked up, with all its back tracking and just fetch-questing and arbitrary bullshit. Same with DK64.

But i recently got new cables for my old systems and im replaying a bunch of N64 titles to 100% completion before the new year. Finished Mario 64, and currently 70% complete with BK1. Im considering whether i should tackle BK2 or DK64 next.

Which would be faster to 100%?

>4 minute MEANWHILE cutscene
>Klungo boss fight

These easily should have been after Mayahem Temple, not before. It's probably pertinent to keep the Jinjo village and Bottles' house segments before the first level but neither of those are actually strictly necessary, you could totally postpone them

I actually wish Tooie had MORE cutscenes, it's just the sense of pacing that's the issue. It's the in-game cutscenes like Mumbo Pads or camera pans or showing you what hitting a switch did or a million other things that take up waaaaaay too much time

So wait til NEXT Christmas season you greedy fucks, you'll still get the exact same amount of money or more cuz the game would've been more polish

Do you have any idea how goddamn phenomenal Banjo-Tooie would be with another year of polish? They only thought to include Warp Pads at the END of development. Suck my balls corporate pigs for stealing this from us

Fucking yeah, it astonished me the first time I heard that. How in the absolute fuck could you not think to include them til near end?

When I was like 15 years old I did a run of Tooie without using Warp Pads, idk i'm masochistic I guess. Took incredibly long. I think the only time you strictly require the Pads is having solo Banjo carry the pterodactyl baby back to the nest and when doing the crusher/electromagnet in Grunty Industries

while this is true of like terrydactyland for example i find that the problem is largely the opposite. many of the levels feel like hallways cramped with events, with the compound issue that most of those events are basically elaborate switches. it gets wildly out of control after the first world when everything also starts requiring mumbo or wumba (or both) somewhere along the chain, as well as “that isolated event that was irrelevant 3 worlds ago.” it’s like the world’s slowest game of pinball

Rare became absolutely fucking retarded during the N64. They held on with shooters, but you could tell they lost a huge amount of their original talent. Or maybe they just weren't able to adapt to 3D like GameFreak.

I always wondered why they felt the need to make Banjo-Tooie this subversive take on the original. I mean characters that look like Banjo and Kazooie don't belong in anything dark or edgy. They look like they belong on a Nick Jr. show for God's sake. For what it's worth nowadays, the first game has aged a lot better than it's sequel.

Back in the day it was just sort of automatically expected that the direct sequel to any given franchise was gonna be bigger, better, and edgier than the first installment. It was just sorta what everyone did.
