Ocarina of Time effectively ends after young Link collects the three spiritual stones. The credits could have rolled here and it would have made sense.

From a gameplay perspective, no new mechanics or depth is introduced to the player after the time jump. All of the items adult Link uses behave near identically, all of the dungeons reuse interactions that you experienced as a kid and combat is never iterated upon, outside of arguably the phantom Ganon fight.

Even if we ignore the timeline autism, narratively the game still fulfills itself once Link pulls out the Master Sword and becomes an adult. We can infer from his appearance that he's not a Hylian and we can infer from Sheik's sudden introduction that she is probably Zelda. The rest of the game's subplots go mostly unanswered, and the windmill sequence alone proves that young Link must have made the good timeline happen.

This is all to say, Nintendo reused the assets from Ocarina of Time not once, but twice. The majority of this game is its own postgame, presented to the player as part of the narrative, and I think that's pretty ingenious.

Another day, another annoying poster desperately trying to find new reasons to hate on Ocarina. It's getting sad, being so butthurt over a 25 year old video game.

Oops, correction: We can infer from his appearance that he's not a Kokiri, and probably a Hylian, since the world had already established the races by the time all the stones are placed in the Temple of Time.

The megaton hammer is identical to the deku stick in that it has basically no purpose outside of getting from one place to another inside of a dungon. Hitting a rusted button isn't exactly deep gameplay, and the only other real use for the hammer is fucking Shadow Link's shit up.

I just finished the game yesterday and loved every minute. I'm not even criticizing the game, either. Learn to read.

Pac-Man effectively ends after the first maze. The credits could have rolled here and it would have made sense.

From a gameplay perspective, no new mechanics or depth is introduced to the player after the first maze is cleared. All of the Power Pellets behave identically, all of the ghosts reuse patterns that you experienced in the first maze and the point system is never iterated upon, outside of arguably the bonus fruits.

Even if we ignore the cutscenes autism, narratively the game still fulfills itself once Pac-Man clears the first maze and proceeds to the second. We can infer from the stage ending after Pac-Man eats all the pellets that he's going to keep eating pellets and we can infer from the Ghosts respawning after being eaten that they will continue to chase Pac-Man. The rest of the game's subplots go mostly unanswered, and the maze flashing sequence alone proves that Pac-Man must have made the good timeline happen.

This is all to say, Namco reused the assets from the first maze not once, but 255 times. The majority of this game is its own postgame, presented to the player as part of the game, and I think that's pretty ingenious.

>the game is just pressing buttons after you press a button the first time
>extremely derivative gameplay
>reused button presses
You might have the lowest IQ on this site. Congrats, it's a very competitive accomplishment.

Hookshot and Mirror Shield, the bow as well, while it fires projectiles just like the slingshot, its arrows can be lit on fire which comes into play for the odd puzzle or two.

Combat is also iterated on, if only slightly with the addition of Stalfos, as they fight you head on and use shields. Iron Knuckles have their own quirks too as they perform attacks that cannot be blocked and become faster and more aggressive at low HP.

if you're not trolling, you are a legitimate pseud. if anything the game doesn't even hit its stride until the adult timeline. that's when the difficulty ramps up, you can play dungeons out of order and you get the coolest items (biggoron sword etc). i can tell you're disingenuous or functionally retarded just by stating that there are no new mechanics introduced. remember when you rode epona around as young link? yeah, me neither you fucking retard. there are tons of new items and mechanics. the shitposting barrel has been scraped so dry that you get this kind of effortless trash now. jesus christ.

The game's core mechanic is that the ghosts get confused by eating a power pellet, and after about round 12 that stops occurring altogether. I could see this argument applying if getting swallowed by a Like-Like destroyed whatever sword and tunic Link was carrying at the time, but you just get them right back. In fact, it's actually more detrimental to have a deku shield burnt up since you end up having to buy a whole new one once all the chests are used.

>>10433773
You have genuine anger issues if you interpret anything about the post as being negative. I'm just pointing out how Nintendo was able to optimally and efficiently recycle gameplay elements while presenting them as being new and unique.

>>10433775
The hookshot's depth is unintended, though. Being able to skip a puzzle by latching onto an enemy or a torch is cool, but that's not what it's there for.
Likewise, by your own admission, fire arrows didn't need to exist, and likely not even Din's fire, as the game can largely be completed by just aiming a regular arrow into a flame.

>Stalfos fight you head on and use shields
This implies that the other enemies don't fight you head on or block at any point, which is just wrong.

>>10433792
Epona is not a new mechanic. If I wasn't allowed to sprint in Doom until I reached Episode 2, would you call that inventive game design? Besides, everyone and their mother knows that sidehopping is faster from the moment you drop down from Link's treehouse.

Before Stalfos, the other big notable enemy you face are Lizalfos, who operate more on jumping over Link and stabbing him in the back, they also retreat after taking damage. The only other enemy I can think of that can block are Wolfos, and you only fight one of those before Saria's maze.

Also the Hookshot IS intended, there are puzzles that require you to use it to grapple upwards, there's no skipping involved with the intended puzzles and navigational challenges. I also never argued for fire arrows or din's fire either. I'm arguing that the bow introduces a new mechanic in the form of shooting through flames, you argued that there are no new mechanics upon reaching adulthood.
And while it may be a tedious process, the act of swapping out boots is a new mechanic, as you're descending and ascending in the water temple with them.
