The PS5 technically brought pack-in games back with Astro's Playroom. I think the last one before then was Wii Sports. While Mario All-Stars + Mario World is probably the most bang for your buck, it was also very late. I'd say the best launch pack-in was Super Mario World itself.

I liked the games packaged with the TurboDuo. The pack-ins were Ys books 1&2, Gate of Thunder, Bonk 1&2, a hidden Bomberman game, and unlike the promo VHS says, I didn't get Dungeon Explorer but something better in Ninja Spirit. They also threw in a couple magazines and a coupon book of $5 off your next 10 TubroGrafx games.

There are still special edition consoles which may have the game included. I haven't followed recent games as much I I'd like but I think the new Xbox has the newest Halo, the latest Playstation has that popular Genshin game, and the Switch has Mario Kart 8 included. I do remember the first Playstation I was a bit disappointed that for the first time a console come with anything but a demo disc so I fortunately got it with Toshinden.

The original Model 1 from 1989 was packaged with Altered Beast until Sonic 1 basically replaced it. The model 2 unit primarily came bundled with Sonic 2.

I had this bundle with my Saturn back then. VF2 was top tier, Daytona was nice, despite the port being a bit iffy. Virtua Cop was still fun without the stunner, but I feel like Sega included the game, so you would be enticed to buy their lightgun. Still a great port.

I hear the Euro pack-in version of this came with Sega Rally instead of Daytona USA. Which makes a lot of sense, given that rally is much more popular in Euro regions. But as it is, it was a really great bundle.

Not retro example, but at Switch's launch, you could make a Japanese account and download the Puyo Puyo Tetris demo. Unlimited Vs CPU and VS a second player play. A real great demo to keep around

around 97 and 98 they were still selling SNES bundles with random games inlcuded, 2 relative cousins of mine got 2 of em, one with Super SF2 and another with KI too, the one with Super Vanilla alone was an old bundle from 95-96 (there was seven a commercial, but sadly it was never uploaded trough the Internet, ever, it had Guz Rodriguez as the narrator)
