The development .GRP has placeholder entries in SWCUSTOM.txt for people to insert their maps, that's why you get that goofy error message if you run it (currently). You can check it out in Slade and change it to e1l1 if desired ($bullet.map). It's mostly for custom .ART files.

I can see why some people really didn't like it. I just gave up and saved constantly throughout because at this point it's not worth it.

Hey, this is weird, but do you ever look at the textures or animations in old sprite based games / early 3D games and want to eat them?
Like the model of the Doom shotgun when you pump it? Does that look tasty to you? Like you just wanna bite the side of it mid-pump and have it shatter like rock candy in your mouth? It looks really appetizing to me.
Or the shiny deep dark blue texture that's used for keys/doors/some walls? Tasty? Yes? I want to eat that color. I want to eat Doom colors. I think the mageneta textures would taste a bit spicy. I'm scared to eat them. I'd lick them first.

It never got big - partly because Deus Ex is complicated to map for, and partly because Unreal Editor is a bit awkward compared to other brush-based mapping tools (also it hasn't really been modernized). Mikhail Kalichev's SSG slot weapon in Aracnocide is a 4 gauge KS-23. But I also think that Doom 64, RotT and Powerslave were good ports, especially when compared to originals. I agree with what you say on Q1, but since it lead development of source ports, I do not see the release as a negative thing. As for Q2 it had it's issues. Being a programmer myself and knowing slightly what kind fuck the whole Q2 engine is, I never expected the mods to work as they were. I still use Yamagi for them. As for balance, I'm glad for GZ enemy nerfs and for me they weight more than railgun nerf (railgun can be modded back anyway). I also liked the co-op improvements, new expansion and the inclusion of n64 version.

The original argument was that all of kex is shit. I'm not claiming that all is good, I'm just saying that some is good. I do not understand the mentality of how praising some good things is shilling. Hell, good things deserve to be praised as much as bad things criticized.

Looks like the new Half-Life update has also broken Xash3D's multiplayer, but oddly enough the singleplayer still seems to work, or at least to start up the tram ride. Must be something to do with the maps that were loaded or the func brushes that error'd out: even older ones like Gasworks and Crossfire shat themselves.

Bit of a shame really. Was hoping to do some Deathmatch on the new maps, since they do in fact work if you load them up in an older version(or at least Pool Party did so far), but anyone who updated would have to hunt down the previous version of the game.

I think your forced to edit the duke3d.def to include each mods def and files in one zip, I use build gdx and not blood primarily and mentioned it's workaround for defs. I did some digging around the duke_widescreenfix.zip and found that it has .pngs for skybox tiles and an identical skyboxes.def file that just points to an alternate directory. It seems like they included those skies, you might only need to run that single mod.

Going through Doom II in UV and starting to get my ass raped. Finished Refueling Base (map 10 I think?) and it felt like the first true taste of things to come. Hey guys, sorry I haven't been here in AGES. I know some of you lads were waiting for it, but finally, there it is, still in a "sort of finished" state :
Magikus 2 : Dorakk's Revenge

For those that don't know, it's the sequel to a doom mod I made at my job (I previously described it as a daycare but it's more like an after school activity center) with a bunch of kids aged 6 to 11 years old. They make the drawings, they tell me what they'd like to see in the game and I do my best to translate it to doom.

Here's a few features :
7 "normal" maps, 1 secret level, 1 "reward level" (a reproduction of my workplace, there's nothing to do except explore, you get teleported to it when you finish the game)
Each level (except the final one) has it's own roster of monsters it's own weapon and it's own set of textures. Mostly drawn by children with a couple exceptions.
The secret level was entirely designed by children apart from the boss room, it's pretty wacky.
Also includes a remastered Magikus 1, less buggy, with slightly more detailed maps, some improvements, and higher res monsters re-scanned from the original drawings.

I can't just make a fun 3d space like in Quake; the maps also have to feel like a "real place" to some degree, and provide justification for the player character's actions (tell a story).
For this reason, planning the levels, their layouts, and making it all fit together has been a nightmare, as I've been unable to think about these aspects in isolation. Worse, I keep changing my mind and starting again due to major layout reforms.
And this is just the level design for a minimod. Imagine having to make a whole game like this from scratch, the way Valve did it.

The entire point of the Gyrojet is multiple angled jet nozzles not just providing thrust, but imparting spin to the projectile to create a gyroscopic stabilizing effect (thus the name), making it fly straight. In theory.

I think you could repurpose dehacked code up to dehextra standard with a less brainache by copy-pasting state sequences between two windows of WhackEd. My setup consists of Final Doomer (for weaponsets variety, I always end up choosing Doomguy anyway) plus Corruption Cards (always Pistol Start)
Sometimes I find that some weapon sets are stronger than others in certain maps.
What mod do you suggest to balance things out?
I tried Legendoom (not compatible with FD), Champions, Legion of Bones, etc. but each of them changes something about vanilla that I either quite dislike or it's just not vanilla friendly.

I think this is a case where they fixed a bug but created another. The Uplink sequence reuses an animation from Blast Pit, when the scientist is supposed to tell you about the rocket, and these lines are tied to the animation itself. I suppose they weren't working before for this particular anim, but I don't remember if this was an old bug or not.
I hope they replace these hardcoded lines with scripted_sentences, there's no good reason to tie whole lines to an animation anymore.

MoHAA holds up really well. despite it just being hitscan combat with infantry enemies there's quite a bit of variety in encounter design and you arent in one type of fight for too long. fights in different ranges encouraging different weapons, then you have the times you get suppressed by MG42s. The Nebelwerfer Hunt demonstrates this variety really well, there's even a part where you can go out of your way to into a bombed house for a higher vantage point.
i just finished The Command Post and it throws in some non-linearity. you have 3 objectives spread across 3 houses, and despite the quest marker pointing you to just one at a time you can complete them in any order.
im on Sniper's Last Stand rn and i heard its an awful level. but if the rest of the game is as good as those other two levels this has a really good chance of being my fav shooter of the early 2000s.

All of this is true, I should have been more specific in my post. It's a shame that dude went awol, Skul put a lot of effort into the resource .pk3 and his map along with Whirledtsar, but he released that map on doomworld afterwards. I don't even know the full extent of the mapping work done, only 3 levels were posted and the discord got deleted, there could very well be more.

Excellent taste, you can't find a better local multiplayer racing game. The level design is outstanding and I love the aesthetic too, the cs rats theme if you will. Ordinarily mundane locations but the player scale is shrunk way down , it's a shame more games don't use that perspective.
