I like the cube, and I'm going through another autistic phase where I want more gamecube games even though prices are fucked in 2023. I can obviously just emulate, but owning the games is nice, too.

Still the best and purest gaming console for me. Just exudes fun and got a lot of great exclusives or good versions of multiplats

>> No.10408623

While I didn’t grow up owning a GameCube, my cousins had one and I have many fond memories of playing multiplayer with my sister and two younger cousins. Our most played games together were Mario Party 7, Super Mario Strikers, Mario Superstar Baseball, Super Monkey Ball, WarioWare: Mega Party Games, and Kirby Air Ride.
I own a decent amount of games that I play on the Wii.
I would say my favorite game for it is Mr. Driller DrillLand. Technically, I only played the remaster, but it did start off as a GameCube exclusive.
I also like Animal Crossing, Bomberman Generation, and some of the SpongeBob games (specifically, Battle for Bikini Bottom and the Movie game). Still need to play some of the games my cousin gave me like Thousand Year Door, Luigi’s Mansion, and Sunshine.

I'd like to say you can obviously play games many other ways. But obviously those aren't obvious to the obviously underage. But your gramps might be able to google them for you.

It's one of the nicest consoles to collect for, compact, engaging, aesthetic, uncanny. I recently sold many doubles I had. Wario World was the most expensive, I sold it under $100. I'd say prices are not THAT fucked for GC yet, specially having already amassed a collection over the years and considering CIB is plentiful. If I had the extra money I'd go after the priciest under $200 ones missing in my collection, but right now I'm okay thrifting for them (two months ago I thrifted SW: Clone Wars and yesterday Zelda CE, ain't much but keeps me going)

>Favorite Game(s)?
SSBM is king. Mario Sunshine and TTYD the most captivating 1P games for me. REmake, Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, Wario World and Luigi's Mansion in the second tier. Played a lot of Spikers BV and F-Zero GX
>Nostalgic Memories?
At the time saw GC only in mags. The first collector I've ever knew, a guy from my neighboorhood, went to meetings with other tendies to play GC and they had a forum also. That passion sticked with me until I got a GC circa 2010.

Killer7 blew my mind when I first played it 8 years ago, the recent PC port is very good (and it has subs) but controlling the game with a GameCube controller feels so good, it was clearly designed for it

Get an older Wii model with GameCube controller and memory card ports, you get the OG hardware with some additional bonuses, most obvious one being playing vidya for free. I'm in the UK and paid ten quid (around twelve bucks) for mine at a charity shop. Ended up buying a GC pad from eBay and a memory card, happy days. I didn't even need the memory card since you can just save to SD card, I just felt like having my saves on a separate device. I feel like this is the way. Plays everything flawlessly. The only thing is you can't connect the Game Boy Player, so if you're collecting GBA carts you're shit out of luck. You can emulate GBA full speed with mGBA though, added bonus being the option of outputting at 240p which looks amazing if you've got a CRT.

I don't know why the N64 seems like it's much more popular in the retro vidya community. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the N64, it has some of my favorite games ever, but I feel like the GameCube has more games that are worth playing in it's library, but it has like 25% of the N64's popularity

Favorite games: Wind Waker, Metroid Prime 2, Zelda collection, Luigi's Mansion
>Nostalgic memories
My Grandma would pick me up from school when I was a kid and we'd play Luigi's Mansion together, and it was the only game she ever really played and actually understood the controls of, and she got pretty good with it. I'll always remember how happy she was one day when she picked me up from school telling me she was practicing while I was away and she happily said "I beat Bowser! I beat Bowser!"
(She's still alive if anyone's wondering)

also every time we got to nana's room in the game she'd go "look, it's me!"

She also asked recently if I still play "that Zelda game with the booger kid" lmao

Game Boy Player never felt worth it to me. The chao games were a nice gimic for adventure 1 & 2. Also it was cool transferring a gold chao from 1 to 2... but other stuff, like the island in Animal Crossing, I never used. But then again, I had already played Wild World when I started playing Animal Crossing so I didn't really care for it much..

So my GameCube now takes 5-10 attempts to read discs on boot up now. Before that it'll either just not recognize the disc or give a disc-read error. Once it actually recognizes a disc, it works just fine though. I've cleaned the laser but that didn't solve anything. How easy is the GameCube laser to replace? Alternatively, could the issue be the little tray the discs sit on? If so, how easy is THAT to replace?

>Favorite Games
Resident Evil 4 is the definitively my favorite game, and worth playing with the GC controller even if you had the other versions. Metroid Prime 2 is a close followup, then Double Dash and the two mainline Zeldas and REmake
>Nostalgic moments
My friends were insanely jealous I got to pay MGS:Twin Snakes when it came out. I got it and loved it, still have my copy. Also playing Rogue Squadron 2 that launch Christmas was amazing, some of the best graphics and gameplay in the world at the time
>Absolute recommendations
The Metroid Prime games, I prefer the second over the first - what a masterpiece. Eternal Darkness is like nothing else. Wind Waker - I regret passing on it when it cane out. Double Dash is the best MK since 8. Twin Snakes, Sunshine, Rouge Squadron 1 &2. GC is the best place to play REmake, RE 2-4 and my favorite place to play the old Sonic games
