How do you beat the fucking torture section? I don't want to let the girl die but I can't last long enough. I assumed the third round would be the last but when the fourth round started my arm was dead. Bad enough I didn't save and had to replay the backtracking section and fighting Sniper Wolf again, but now I can't outlast the torture no matter how many times I try.

Do the other games do this shit? I hate it.

If I had known about it I might've too. Also I think every boss fight kind of sucks so far. It's like the game wasn't designed for combat at all. The sneaking is good but there's way more boss fights than I expected. But anyway I'm five hours in and I can't restart now. I just want the good ending and I can't get past the torture section.

Wait, are people actually pressing the button rapidly? Don't you kids know how to cheat button mashing games?

1) The Pinch
Pinch your thumb and index finger together to where the tips of your fingernails are touching. Find a good angle for your hand and the controller so you can rapidly flick your pinched together thumb and index finger across the edge of the button. When doing it right, the peak formed by your fingernails should rapidly press the button, and the motion is similar to strumming a guitar.

2) The Spoon
Get a metal spoon. Using the round bottom of the spoon, rapidly move it back and forth on the button. This takes a good deal of practice to get the hang of hitting the button rapidly instead of holding it down, but it's highly effective. I don't know anyone who owned a copy of Track & Field back in the day who didn't know about and use the spoon technique. I highly doubt there was a single record for Track & Field sent into Nintendo Power that wasn't gotten with the spoon.

Ok, anon, I can help. First off, this is a skill issue. I suck at tapping buttons fast, and I've accepted that I'll never be able to get gud at it either.
What I do in this scenario is place my thumb and index finger together into an 'OK' position, then brace the controller flat against my leg. Then for whatever button I want to press rapidly, I position the fingernail flat against the either side of that button. The motion you want to do is to pass your fingernail over to the other side of the button then return to it's original position. Then spam that motion as fast as you can. With one complete motion you get 2 presses of the button. You can multiply your pressing speed 2X if not more depending on your endurance. You will get tired eventually, but you will get less tiered than conventional button-pressing. Hope this helps.

Guessing this is yet another troll thread. I beat the torture in 1 and 2 on all difficulties as a child. 2 on Extreme is piss hard though and I remember that and almost all bosses taking a while, but once you learn the bosses you can beat them all in multiple different ways without getting hit. Hardest I remember are Vamp, Harrier, Ray. Fatman can take a while since you have to run around a lot but there is nothing imbalanced or unfair in either 1 or 2. If you can't button mash then the problem is you don't know how to generate force efficiently. If the main thing moving is your thumb joint then think about anatomy a little more. Practice tapping your thigh by only moving your thumb, you will feel difficulty and restriction, now do it by moving your whole arm up and down and only slightly twitching your thumb, it will feel a lot smoother, faster, and natural. As an adult, without certain sports or dexterity-based exercises like playing an instrument, humans develop an unnatural way of movement as they forget the basics functions that came so natural as a child. Most people dom't walk or run properly, for example, and develop bad feet, knees and hips later in life as a result. Effect of living in our modern, unnatural habitat.

I agree that in mgs and other games I mostly enjoy the sneaking parts and not boss fights that much. Maybe the bosses are interesting if you can just skip the fight or kill the bosses at multiple parts of the game. Deus Ex 1 is good at this and Mgs3 has more than one place, time and way to kill The End.

Some stealth games fuck you over a bit because if you are familiar with sneaking games, then you might not have to fight a single time or upgrade your weapons or anything. Of course it's smart to hoard stuff just in case, but Deus Ex Human Revolution had this problem a bit on my first playthru. I played the original one where the bosses just literally take 1000 bullets and that's their thing, but I read that directors cut had more than one way to kill the bosses.

I absolutely love Death Stranding and I've played it twice. This is my first time playing Metal Gear, and I'm liking it, but the gameplay feels like it still needs a little bit of refining. I'm looking forward to playing the later games though.

Get good scrub, or at least use the spoon trick.

I think 1 and 3 are the series' best, but I understand that MGS1 would feel rough these days. Lots of the developments in the PS2 era are night and day differences, and Subsistence (3) adding the rotating camera (instead of the isomorphic view) changed everything.

After that everything is downhill (except maybe Peacewalker), so enjoy the ride.

(I never played DS. MGSV is the last Kojima title I touched, for better or worse.)

Use the nails of the fingers on your right hand (2 or 3, depending on your hand size). Then run them across the O button to repeatedly press the button by running them across it.

Literally what is this lol

Are you implying to not depress the button at all?

>always been good at button mashing
>literally just tense up my arm at the elbow and let my arm shake slightly while keeping my thumb on the button
Do people just try to button mash by hitting the button normally?

I do it your way, but my arm gets tired before I get to the end.

Isn't there a trick in MGS2 to make the button mashing at the end easier if you look to the left or right?

If you can't do the torture minigame you aren't a real gamer
