I tend to be a bit cautious with new handhelds made by the more bootleggy companies. I'm gonna give it a month or two and see if anyone starts having issues, and if not then I'd gladly recommend it.

for me aliexpless delivered in like 2 weeks and 45$ for the r35s was a great deal. kind of pissed the r36s releases 3 weeks after i got mine but whatever it's just 40ish bucks and it's still performed great. and yeah i only picked it up after seeing some videos and demonstrations of it and it seemed like a no brainer. Also being able to use paypal on temu/aliexpress etc gives me piece of mind that if the shit goes south i can just get my money back through paypal.

I know the current reviews are good, but I'm talking like, what if these things have a flaw that isn't noticeable right away. I remember when the 405m came out people were praising it, only to find out a month later that if you run it too hard the screen literally falls out

I find that it usually takes a month or two before those issues become noticeable, which is why I like to wait a little.

Not just a proprietary dock, a dock that artificially forces you to use it.

The analogue is outputting the video through a usb C port, meaning that they have al the hardware needed to do a basic usb to HDMI pass through, but they went out of their way to invent a codec that only their dock can read. At least Apple Tax lets you buy third party shit, even if it can only be used on their devices.

I tried to play one of those Pokegirl rom hacks where there's a unique story and it's all about defeating trainers and then catching them and making them into your Pokemon.
Except the very first time you lose (if you don't lose by a certain point you face an undefeatable boss and lose anyway) you're enslaved yourself, which is fine, but it instantly becomes about the most depraved and disgusting shit fixating on vomit, body hair, bad smells, forced scat eating, everything awful you could imagine. So I fucking deleted that shit and never bothered trying with anything else like it. The best I get is whatever lewd/suggestive smut were in retail releases.

My ideal handheld would be able to handle up to 5 gen plus psp, have a big screen, dpad centric, and good ergonomics (no brick shape). The x28 was very close, but sadly they fucked up the sticks and it wasn't supported by the community at all.
No perfect handheld exists, so I just might as well buy something cheap that works for me.

For now, it is a tie between the RG353PS (good shape, controls, supported bu the community, and it handles the PSX) and the trimui smart pro, which looks more comfortable but I'm not sure how it will handle psx. Literally nothing. You are paying a premium to people in California who just get China to manufacture the things for them anyway. They're a bunch of hedge fund kiddies who wanted to make the Apple product of handhelds, and they did. It has a bunch of hilarious design flaws that no one who actually used cartridge-based handhelds before would ever have done even as an oversight, it's literally designed to be turned on and displayed on a shelf in the background of a video, not to be actually used. And there are dozens of better novelty handhelds to overpay for if that's what you're looking for, like the FunkeyS or the Retro Pixel Pocket.

I really think the R36S is going to be worth it. The one thing bothering me about the R35S is that fucking stick placement, as most games I play use d-pad and face buttons. The R36S just might be the perfect handheld I've been looking for all year, once I mod the buttons and update ArkOS.

>> No.10383573

yeah the buttons feel a bit stiff. weirdly i do like the stick placements on the r35 since i can play completely 1 handed with the left hand. i just remap the dpad to xyab and have had a lot of fun playing for this way. but playing driving lagoon feels rough with the r35 size. it’s too short and the r36 does seem more comfy in that regard. fuck it i’ll pick one up and can have one as a backup if the other one breaks down.

"Hardware download mode needs to be set to Unsync and use -2 underclock and -3 cycle skip

That's a comment on the 3+, but it applies to Flip as they share the same hardware. Flip may get SLIGHTLY better performance though since it has active cooling.

I just completely fucked up my Arcade games on my RG35XX. I was trying to change key mapping so I could choose different characters in the games that allow you to choose different characters. When trying to assign new key maps none of the buttons lets you input anything it just defaults to "none" or just blank. I used the Arcade input settings instead of the main retroarch settings which appears to have been the wrong choice. So, now I am unable to push a single input in any arcade game. I just reformatted the main SD Card to default. It still hasn't reset the key mapping. I tried deleting the retroarch.cfg file nothing changed. What do I have to delete or reset to just put everything back to default??? I don't care if I lose every save state. It has to either be somewhere on the 2nd SD card that has the roms and bios folders or some kind of internal memory on the RG35XX. Thank you for any help.

Overall impressions;
The A/X and B/Y buttons are connected to each other. I haven't noticed any false inputs but pressing one does slightly bring down the other with it. Apparently one of the first recommended mods people do is just cut the little piece connecting them. They also feel a little stiffer than the GBC's buttons and feel a little too tall.
D-pad feels good but also a little more stiff than it should be. I think it's slightly more recessed than the face buttons are, because it feels like the perfect height unlike the face buttons. Works great, no false diagonals from what I've tried.
The four shoulder buttons are all the same shape, click loudly, and feel stiffer than the rest of the buttons. It's also too easy to accidentally hit the L1/R1 buttons, especially when trying to hit L2/R2.
I thought I was going to hate the recessed Switch analog sticks, but you can't feel the large circular pit at all while using them. I'm pretty sensitive to tactile shit (I'm okay with these face buttons being engraved as you barely feel the letters, but some devices the engraved face buttons drive me up a wall) but I cannot feel the analog stick pits whatsoever even when trying to focus on them. The placement is also pretty great, as I can easily use the analog sticks with my thumbs' first knuckle while resting my thumb tip on the d-pad and face buttons, full control and access to everything but the Start/Select button without having to move my thumbs off of anything.
Start, Select, and Menu buttons are perfect though loud when clicked. Wish they were the same volume as the L3/R3 buttons when clicked.
I need to use my finger nail to press the volume, reset, and power buttons. And I'm a scrawny little 5'6 120 lbs twig. Which is fine, prevents any accidental presses. They have the perfect click volume.
The build quality otherwise is fucking solid, feels far sturdier than the RG35XX and I'm the dude who had his cat knock his RG35XX off my desk without a scratch.

Despite being taller, the R36S is more pocketable than the R35S due to the recessed analog sticks. Also, having a removable battery pack cover should be a standard with ANY device. Other than that, their build qualities are identical. Sturdy, feels safe carrying around loose in my pocket without a protective case, I can just whip it out and and continue playing any title where I left off with ease, and mine only cost me $38 USD for the R35S and $45 USD for the R36S. They can play literally everything my RG35XX, better, as well as some PSP, DS, N64, and DreamCast. I personally wouldn't play PSP titles on a 4:3 screen, but they do run well. DreamCast and N64 both run okay and to get the best performance you will need to configure each individual title you plan to play.
Would I recommend the R36S over the Miyoo Mini Plus or the RG35XX? Yes. You just get a sturdier, more capable product for less cost, simple as. The only reason to get a Miyoo Mini Plus or RG35XX over the R36S is the desire to get into the Miyoo or Anbernic brand ecoculture.

Italy lost that right when they stopped innovating on quality control. Its the same argument the Chinese have when it comes to saying they invented the pizza (while missing 3/4 of the essential ingredients of italian and 8/9 of american pizza). The RG35XX's shoulder buttons make it significantly easier to hold and use them, however the R36S's extra height makes it more comfortable to rest in your palms. Using the analog sticks directly under your thumbs feels no more of a reach than a PlayStation controller's, but what I really like is resting the analog sticks under my knuckle so my thumb's tip can rest on the d-pad/face buttons (only the X button is out of reach when I do this). I find I keep accidentally pressing the L1/R1 buttons on the R36S when I don't have that issue at all with the RG35XX. I haven't played it for long, but the only issue I think I'll have with the R36S for long play sessions are the shoulder buttons.

I didn't play any PSP games on my R35S, I just instantly deleted them to make room for more DreamCast titles since the base models only come with five DC games. I'll try some of the PSP games on the R36S later, but it's the aspect ratio of the screen that is gonna kill me, I hate squished screens.

Legends Arceus was a lot of fun. A shame that more of it didn't translate over to Scarlet and Violet. The last main Pokemon entry I enjoyed, at all, was Sun & Moon and even then you felt like a fucking secondary character just tagging along behind the pre-determined path the main character was leading you along on. Which CAN work (Phantom Brave for the PS2) when it's just a narrative thing, but all of Alola is just one straight fucking path you walk down.

I got my Odin 2 last week; it's awesome. Even F-Zero runs great at 3x on ALL tracks. There are some FPS dips inherent to emulation, but it's by far the best handheld GC experience I've had yet. The original Odin, with an SD 845, had a lot of shortcomings with GC, and the T618 is a meme for GC. That's not to say you can't PLAY GC on something weaker than an 8 gen 2, obviously, but for the price of an Odin 2, you might as well just buy that and not look back. I will never use my Odin 1 again, it's just that good.

It should without saying that DC and PSP are even easier to emulate and you can expect flawless performance on the Odin 2.

Least amount of hassle would be the Miyoo Mini+ with DotUI installed. Reasonable price, pleasing design, simplest frontend and interface, and decent PSX performance. If you want sticks and stacked shoulder buttons for better PSX play, or enough power for PSP, your best bet might be the Retroid Pocket 2S, but I'm not familiar with emulating on Android so I'm not sure how much work it takes to get running.
Sadly with these devices even if the price and form factor are right it's always going to take some amount of effort to get them ready to play games well. But if you're satisfied with Gameboy systems and 2D consoles then the Miyoo Mini+ is the best bang for your buck and DotUI is the easiest frontend to install and use.

Trimui's prices are usually dogshit for what you get and sales super mediocre. I could be wrong, but I don't expect anything more than an additional $10 off within the next 6 months. This is legitimately the first time they've sold something at a sane price even if it's not great. $80 shipped for a chip that's more or less on par with the rk3566 is pretty standard at this point. The state of ergonomic handhelds is pretty sad. Powkiddy is the only one even trying, and it shat the bed with the x28. The x55 was close to perfection, except the dpad is in the wrong place, and the rgb10 max 2 is perfect but is like 3 years obsolete by now. On top of that, they aren't usually supported by CFW.

How? If I longpress the game on the main screen and go to adjusts its settings runahead simply isn't there, the options list for "System" ends on rewind options.
>did you try turning off geometry correction?
I have it turned off because it breaks the light aura that Sparx emits by stretching it all over the screen. Spyro the Dragon with DualShock controller and 1 frame of runahead dips below 30 FPS in the very first area of the game on my Retroid Pocket 2S, both with OpenGL and Vulkan renderer backends.

"get kicked from your game" implies you lose whatever progression you accomplished while playing. You don't get your fucking rewards/bonuses/whathaveyou if you've been kicked.
"Being kicked" also implies a human element where another individual chose to eject you out of the game. You're not "being kicked" in any sense here. At worst, and this is an extreme comparison here, you're accidentally hitting the power button on your og phat NDS due to its shitty placement above the d-pad. Except it's not even that because you're not losing your progress by accidentally turning the system off, you're just momentarily pausing your game experience. If you can get it for $50 and free shipping, ya
But remember that Black Friday is a couple of days away, you might be able to get a handheld in a higher bracket for the same price if you hold off until this weekend.

OKay, I want to play PSO and my PS Vita is too weak to do so..

Taking advantage of 11.11 and that I have never had an emulation console. Which would be the cheapest to play DC well?

K36S It looks great, but I don't see any posts with enough reviews and I don't want to fucked it up.

They arent made anymore, so you'll have to get lucky on ali, but,
>pocket go 1
Bittboy clone. Same firmware and performance as the v90. So complete shit
>Pocket go 2
Same performance as the rg350.

RP2S on sale for the analog triggers and better analog sticks, if you want a pleasurable DC experience. Android takes more setup though.

R36S is ugly as fuck vertislop with giant retard buttons in the center but definitely cheaper than the 2S and linux devices usually take much less setup

Elaborate, this sounds like some pretty personal, autistic shit.

Repeating yourself isn't elaborating at all, idiot. Explain what makes having buttons in the middle "retarded". Where else would they fucking be, on the top of the device like with Retroid shit?

The Start and Select buttons on the RP2S are larger than the ones on the R36S tho...? Do you eat paint?

That's not how it works on 2S, default settings require two sequential presses of the home button to leave games.

So then there is no "being kicked from the game for pressing the menu button by accident" on any device?

I presume the other retroids have that too, at least.
