Its only games on Nintendo platforms that do this shit too.
Pokemon Black and White permanently have missing features and mechanics because they relied on connecting the games to a website that offered further mechanics through glorified flash games.

Super Mario Bros 3 remake on the GBA had a lot of new content that could only be accessed by buying an e-reader and living in Japan where they actually bothered to release the cards that add the new content. You would still need a second GBA on top of all this btw
