They're very different games. Really calling Beyond Oasis a Zelda clone doesn't fit very well. I like that it's mostly a brawler where you use your elementals and different weapons to manage the combat. I've played through both games many times at this point. Meanwhile for whatever reason Zelda has never really clicked with me. The only one I finished was Link's Awakening and in part because I had lots of free time and only a few Gameboy games. Link to the Past I've tried many times and just get bored. The combat is dull and the puzzles aren't enough to keep me engaged. The other one I liked was Wind Waker but when the last dungeon was a rehash of the earlier dungeons I got bored again and never finished.

Not to say there's anything bad about Zelda, it's just not my cup of tea but calling either the Oasis games, Rayearth, Secret of Mana etc Zelda likes doesn't fit.

>> No.10367521

I enjoy Beyond Oasis as well, though I feel a little guilty as I figured out the secret to the combat:
Just get really close until you're pressing up against your enemy and hit the attack button, the quick kick you perform does absurd levels of damage and knocks things flat on their ass.

I have to say I agree with him. I shill the Oasis games more than just about anyone else here but the one thing I don't have a ton of praise for is the music. It's not bad, but it's so mellow and generic that it just fades into the background.

There weren't a lot of good games in this style in those days anon what else do you want people to post? The indies sure are creating a metric ton of games in this style though so eventually we will have a huge over saturation of Zelda-likes in our time.
>>10363748
Sadly not even the X series fully delivers on this thanks to the second half of the series being bad. Again the indies are actually making tons of Megaman clones so we will certainly have an abundance of that. Both of you guys should just look there for your fix.

Yeah there needed to be a lot more overworld content, I absolutely agree with that. Still a great game though. The Spirit system was beyond cool, and something I'm convinced inspired the transforming masks in Majora. Requiring different forms to pass beyond particular areas and obstacles and deal with certain enemies. My biggest issue with Beyond Oasis is the health/food and weapon systems which were far too lazy and unsatisfying compared to how you can upgrade weapons, armor and items in Zelda

One thing that really annoys me about Beyond Oasis, and a lot of adventure games including Zelda, is how at the end, all your magical friends and allies tell you to fuck off, steal all your equipment and magic that you've painstakingly collected and upgraded, and you have to go back to being the same loser you were at the beginning of the game. One lazy secret dungeon of constant enemies to get an unbreakable broadsword, and that's it. What I love about Zelda is going around finding ways to upgrade your equipment and find tools to make Link stronger.
