I haven't tried it but the nightdive remake looks very good. probably better to start with that unless you're especially interested in outdated and archaic fps

If you're playing the EE, a pretty good time if you don't mind an 'old' looking game and weird, occasionally discordant music. Stock OG version will probably be too funky to play for you. Remake a shit, SHIT.

>>10358003
People will complain about teh controls but if you read the manual and the tutorial you can play it pretty much with just the mouse for the most part and the game designed around it; it's not too bad but the mouse look mod exists for a good reason.

Go into the settings and turn down the sound effect, there might even be a setting speficially for ambient sound effects. The actual music is fine there's just god awful sfx being played at all times in some places. Turning it down makes them barely audible but normal sounds are louder than they are so it feels normal.

But yeah without doing that you're exposing yourself to ear rape.

The release of the remake was funny. Since it was fresh and plenty of people were trying it out, you can see how retarded the average gamer is today.

Not to say you're smart if you get System Shock, you're just a retard if you think it's difficult.
>But the clunky controls, anon!
Not even that (you're still a retard for this btw)
But Shock 1 has pretty forgiven layouts compared to dungeon crawlers of its time, and it was funny seeing people getting lost so early in.

I’ve been gaming pc fpss since wolfenstein on dos. Even when it came out it got a ton of flak for the cumbersome controls.
It’s a shame too because the soundtrack is killer and it’s one of the first times I came across atmospheric storytelling. Probably the most immersive game I had ever played up to that point

Every floor has respawning enemies. Once the population reaches a certain threshold, enemies respawn. Not all, only a few and it's based on the floor.
It's very noticeable in Maintenance due to how small the floor is

Actual retards, if you have an iq over 60 they are not bad, in most cases I would even praise the controls because unlike most game it actually feels like you have full control over the character you are playing as. The inventory system is also extremely easy to use and works great, also if you play portable or EE you have absolutely nothing to bitch about since you can make it play like doom 99% of the game.

>> No.10364180

>>10358003
pretty cool game, controls a lot like daggerfall with the enhanced edition. has great atmosphere and music. enemies are easy to cheese, but you need to cheese because they are otherwise difficult to deal with. in that way i feel it accomplishes survival horror pretty well, you are really trying to get an edge over enemies. the movement is great, you can bing bing wahhoo jump high by stringing jumps, theres strafe running, and a little into the game you get a skate upgrade that lets you press w like it isn't usually a horrible idea. secrets are decent but usually aren't more than wallhugging. ultimately i think it satisfies the hoarder interest that make these type of games feel special.

the remake is good. its not 1:1 though, movement took a huge hit, and some smaller details id expect to be patched in soon were missed. that said it has its own added secrets, but
>my save got deleted with an update
and i dont feel like playing another 10 hours when i expect it to happen again

>> No.10364724

Recently played it. There's a steam guide on how to map the controls so they're not ass backwards on the enhanced edition.

If you want some unsolicited advice:

>Change the UI to the full screen view ASAP
>Don't bother picking up the stun gun
>Don't stress over dying or conserving med packs if you activated the resurrection chamber in each floor.
>Enemies respawn in almost every floor.
>Get good at aiming your crosshair around corners to shoot/swing your melee weapons at the very edge of the enemy's hurtbox. You can mow most of them down fast enough that hey can't shoot/melee you back.

Maze-like corridors but probably a good game hidden somewhere inside them (at least that what people say, I can never get far enough to find out before I drop the game)
