10352542 No.10352542 [Reply] [Original]

I thought it'd be fun to start a discussion over the times when we really just got beat up by what we were playing, when we got "filtered" as many would say nowadays. I consider myself to be pretty average with this stuff, I have finished a few titles many consider to be really difficult, some of which I even find simple to complete nowadays due to how much I've had to play them so I could finally pull of a winning run, while there are other titles that people don't consider to be all that difficult and still were too tough for me, regardless if I actually went on to finish them or not. Anyways, it's time to leave our pride aside and open up about those times.

>How often do you feel that you get "filtered"?
>How would you rate your skill in video games overall?
>What were the titles that gave you the most trouble to complete?
>What were the titles that you gave up on due to it being way too much for you?

I find that this doesn't happen to me often, but I know that's biased because I often avoid stuff that looks like it'll give me too much trouble, like I've said I think I'm average, perhaps better in retro stuff than most, but nothing special either. I have memories of many titles, The Lion King was a pain to finish for the 1st time, 8-Bit Sonic 2 was tough to finish and then to 100%, Caslte of Illusion was surprisingly tough on Hard difficulty, Spider-Man (2000) was downright obnoxious to 100% due to a single suit which felt impossible to unlock, and speaking of Spider-Man... I can't beat 8-Bit Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin on Nightmare difficulty, it just can't be done.

>How often do you feel that you get "filtered"?
I'd say, not often, though that's more on me choosing games I know I would play to the end.
>How would you rate your skill in video games overall?
Depends on the genre. Extremely bad in turn based RPG and turn based strategy, mediocre in fighters and platformer, pretty good in third person action/action RPG, veritable god in FPS/TPS
>What were the titles that gave you the most trouble to complete?
Strictly /vr/, Devil May Cry 3. Really didn't appreciate the game robbing me of DT and Styles in the penultimate boss battle. I didn't spend as much time on it as some bosses in other games, but damn did I hate every minute of it. Non-/vr/ I'd say Lies Of P has given me a lot of trouble as of late.
>What were the titles that you gave up on due to it being way too much for you?
Sonic 1. Yeah yeah, landmark title or whatever, I just can't put myself into it, and so many zones are a slog. Also, no matter how much people shill, I'll never play Cruelty Squad. Fuck the LSD style.

It really sucked, the secret to flying in a straight line, which should've been simple enough, is to repeatedly tap the d-pad in the direction you're moving from, so if you're flying to the right, you tap left on the d-pad very fast, you essentially button mash.

I like a lot of different kinds of games, but text-only (and often text-input) adventure games are beyond my patience.
From learning the specific command words that can only be used in specific ways to the unforeseeable deathtraps to the lack of indication of where to go to the overly specific and complicated or obscure solutions needed to progress to the obnoxious sarcastic humor.
All the fun of a choose your own adventure book if you had to correctly guess what some of the words are before you could flip the page, and there's only one good ending.

I wanted to beat Baraduke tonight, played for a while and then realized there was no continue feature by default after my first game over, so I tried again and again, and got to Floor 10 as my best, and then gave up for the night.
When I go back to it, I'm gonna go into the options and turn the continues on. I'm willing to power through it and try to get good enough to make it through the whole game on default settings for something consistent like Galaga 88, but Baraduke gives no fucks, the game is filled with so much RNG and turns into a bullet hell clusterfuck the second you get to the first boss, and only gets more insane from there. It also really sucks that you have no i-frames, so in crowded situations, if you can't find a way to weave through, you are going to die instantly, no matter how many shields you have.

i didn't get filtered because i did finish it just now but i wanted to play through luigi's mansion yesterday because spooktober and remembered that my old file didn't have all the gold frames, i was missing the bosses. every other boss wasn't so bad but boolossus is a real pain, even when i did figure out that you can emulate the elemental shot by setting both L/R and L/R analog to the triggers.

speaking of filters i think i might play resident evil next, i was gonna play that game a few months back but found out the saves were limited and i died like a jackass and didn't want to start over. do they give you enough save items to at least use one at each save point? cause i always stockpile ethers in rpgs but rarely end up usin em, is it the same deal here?
