Because I got warned for this earlier, need I remind the janitors:

>Retro gaming means platforms launched in 2001 and earlier, and official game titles for those platforms released no later than December 2007 (homebrew console games made after this date will be permitted).
>The Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and Sony PlayStation 2 will now be considered "retro".

>The Burger King games, sometimes known collectively as King Games, are a series of three advertisement-based video games (advergames) sold at Burger King.
>The games were sold as part of a promotion during the holiday season from late November until December 24, 2006.
>The games were compatible with both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360, and feature online play through Xbox Live.

SO.... since the King Games are /vr/ do you remember playing them at all? Were they any good?

Yeah. They weren't great, but certainly better than what you'd expect from a burger king game.

It's amazing how /vr/ will make rules and then throw a shit fit when those rules have unintended consequences.

The new "game-year based" rules are so impulsively unclear that neither the newfags nor their janny creators know how to enforce them. Should've just stuck to pre-2000 platforms (+ ports/remakes & backports) and created v2k/vr2k for anything beyond 2000, but instead they just had to force their impulsive, GBAspam-based gayness on all of us.

Some of the best promotional tie ins ever made. Genius stuff. The rebrand of “The King” during this time period was Burger King at it’s strongest in my lifetime.

They were definitely fun for what they were, and definitely was great marketing for Burger King and Xbox.

Sneak King was extremely based. The other two were okay.

Good memories with these.

>> No.10336159

sneak king was actually extremely fun to get the 200 achievement points on because it was so hard.

That's kind of how I see it. Of course in a perfect world we'd just get separate boards for different gens. So /2kvr/ would be /vr/ from xbox & 360 generation.

>> No.10336336

>>10336142
exactly. even though there was recently a noclip doc on the making of these games I really did think of them on occasion.
Such a ballsy thing for BK to do. My friend got big bumpin and we played it for like 20 mins but still it was pretty cool to get a goofy game like this for 4 bucks with your stacker meal.

>> No.10336339

I did not know these games were compatible with OG Xbox. Very based.

Are these the only XBOX-XBOX360 crossplay games in a single disc? I don't remember that being a thing in any other game

Check xbox magazine around issue 50 or so is when xbox 360 games were coming out, there may have been a few demo disks that were compatible with both

>360

>> No.10336420

So the box says the disc contains "XBox and XBox 360 versions of the game" but is that really the case? Were there really two different versions of the game on the disc or was it just an XBox Original game which for obvious reasons would play on a 360?
In any case, it's weird to see an XBox Original game with what is basically 360 branding on the box. Which is probably why OP got warned in the first place.

I'll say what I said in the other thread. I remember how people already into game collecting were buying these up like crazy because the theory was that by being a Burger King exclusive they'd be rare and expensive. But they sold so many that they're now among the cheapest Xbox games in the entire library.

Yeah you could put the disc in a classic Xbox or a 360 and it will work in both. Watch the Noclip doc.

Basically, they realized that the kind of people who walk into Burger King to buy a Burger King game probably don't know the difference between an Xbox and an Xbox 360, especially since the 360 just came out, so the devs had to make the discs dual compatible in both. Keep in mind the devs for this were the guys who did Fusion Frenzy, the first Xbox game, and they were programming on their own engine, so for them to make that shift late in development may not have been trivial, but they were in the best spot to do it.

Because 90% ofthe time they don't know the hobby. Doesn't matter anyway.

So the whole marketing campaign started off with Bill Gates wanting to get 360 discs into people's hands. I think his theory was if someone had an original xbox and bought a 360 game that would work on an og xbox, they'd want to buy a 360 to see the familiar game in much better graphics and achievements etc.
But the truth is that every gamer knows what console they have, so it was more a way for the illegal mexican workers who don't speak english to not fuck up when they order the game.
Also making the selection 1 of 3 instead of 1 of 6.

>> No.10338231

>>10336350
Yup, these were the only ones ever released. Basically they did it by having both executables on the disc, with the 360 being able to tell "oh this is one of those weird games" and run the 360 executable.

>> No.10338271

>>10337064
More likely they just didn't want to sell a bunch of OG Xbox games when they wanted to advertise the 360.

Absolutely not.

"Retro gaming" means pre-7th gen. Or in other words, "before HD/widescreen was the norm".

EVERYONE knows this except /vr/.

>> No.10340112 [DELETED]

>>10340087
yeah but the definition will change as time moves on and as tech advances and as gameplay styles change. in 2010 retro meant pre-3D. now it means pre-widescreen, and in 2100 I think the NES, PS2, 360 and PS5 will all be considered the "early" years of gaming.

>> No.10340115 [DELETED]

>>10336023
or how about splitting gaming into "eras" instead of creating one universal "retro" period like a fucking autist? nobody groups Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods of paintings and calls them "old painting"

Just because something is old doesn't mean it's retro. Ass-ass-ins Creed and Call of Duty Black Cops are worlds apart from something like Sonic 2 or Umihara Kawase. They don't belong on this board. They will never belong on this board. They will never be retro, regardless of how old they become.
