The only remotely challenging stars are some of the hundred coin ones

The game feels like a checklist but its still fun to replay

It’s a really fun game to beat. It’s not a great time to 100%. That’s okay though, because your only reward for doing so are lives, which are useless in this game anyway.

Every atempt I've had at replaying this "masterpiece" would lead me to turning the entire game off when I had to grind out those boring 100 coin stars.

>> No.10332173

>>10332169
The 100 star ones are fun though, at least in some courses. Things like Tick Tock Clock and Rainbow Ride really require a lot of knowledge of the stage and being precise to get those.

>>10332143
All of them are challenging if you challenge yourself to play the game well, which you can do because the moveset and level design allows it and are deep enough. Maintaining a rhythm for example is challenging but extremely satisfying

This is precisely why SM64 is arguably the only good 3D platformer until maybe Galaxy 2

>> No.10332403

>>10332378
no lol many of the stars are just walking or swimming in straight lines unless you are literally going for pbs at which point any game is challenging

>gamers tend to hate collecting items scattered over a large level because they find it tedious and boring
>”hey I got a great idea lets make like 3 identical games where all the player does is collect scattered items over large levels!”
What was Rare thinking?

Misunderstanding why the games were popular. PlayStation games like Crash, Spyro and Ape Escape were the next step in the genre, but games like crash 3 and spyro 3 also hit a snag with the variety = not playing the base game meme which came from Rare and their autism.

>> No.10333390

It's plenty challenging once you get the second tier of stages. Not crazy hard by any means, but pretty much exactly where you want the difficulty of a Mario game to be. Not too much, like Sunshine. Not too little, like Galaxy.

>> No.10333614

The game isn’t hard at all. But the controls were great and just moving around the obstacle course levels was fun. The levels let you explore and mess around, and that’s really what was new and cool about it at the time. Its a game based on exploration and 3d open world platfoming thats fun to control. So when people play it to just “collect all the stuff” they get bored of collecting all the stuff. In 96 you played it just to fuck around. It was the new thing. Now, I think people don’t play it that way because games like it have been around forever.

How are you expected to get on top of Boo's house to get the star? I've only ever been able to do it by abusing jump kicks to prevent myself from sliding off, but I seriously doubt that's an intended mechanic.

You're mistaken in thinking OP made this thread in earnest when it's a thinly vailed low quality thread meant to shit on game. I wish you fags would realize this fact regarding any and all threads like it, but you can't help yourselves for some reason that I can't for the goddamn life if me figure out why you just can't keep your mouths shut.

It's not even better than Sonic Adventure. I am sick to death of you posters claiming controls are all that matter as if the rest of the game being shit isn't a problem.
