>SNES and PS1
Best sellers. The most iconic consoles of respective generations. Largest libraries by far. Controllers are basically the same. Very strong third party support in every region. Both have the best looking transparency effects. Home of JRPGs. Have the biggest fighting game releases of their gens with SF2 and Tekken 3 respectively.
>TG16 (PCE) and Saturn
Weird 2x VDP architecture. Many titles look like visually enhanced past gen. Failed in the US. Were way more popular in Japan. Strong arcade ports library (shmups) but many titles never left Japan.
>Genesis in N64
Have the fastest CPU. Very popular in the US to the point of some people claiming that they won their respective generations. Actually finished second. Very strong first party libraries. Third parties are much weaker and mostly consists of Western titles. Failed in Japan. Very few Japanese made third party games but at least they had Treasure stuff. Have the most hardcore fanbases in the western retro community.

>>SNES and PS1
But I love Mario (Kart, RPG), Zelda, F-Zero, Star Fox, Harvest Moon, Goemon and Castlevania the most on SNES and N64 has the (best) sequels to those

>> No.10330040

PC Engine/CD and the Saturn are the best consoles here so it makes sense.

I wish I could travel back in time with my PC and develop two fucking decent 2D JRPGs for the N64 so this meme can end

Does that make the Xbox the N64 2?

Genesis had successors in the form of add-ons. I agree with you on the SNES and PS1, though. Mixed feelings about the TurboGrafx and Saturn. They have some similarities but I've always felt the Japanese side of Saturn is heavily exaggerated and not nearly as interesting or unique as the TurboGrafx.

Well this is why the comparison doesn't really work. Dreamcast for instance had elements of N64, PS1, and Saturn in its design and overall library. GameCube and PS2 are also completely different from the others

>> No.10330063

I have always felt the SNES true successor was the PlayStation, and the NES true successor was the Mega Drive. Both are leaps ahead of the systems they succeeded, they took the idea of what Nintendo was attempting to do, and turned it into something actually incredible and worthwhile.
I don't follow the Mega Drive to N64 connection though. The Mega Drive was known for fast-paced action, the N64 is the least technically capable in that generation of delivering on that front.

Genesis to N64 doesn't make any sense.

The others are right though.

Also, N64 to Xbox.

that has more to do with nintendo being retarded about cdrom media

>> No.10330320

The PS1 was a successor to both the SNES and Genesis, that's why it won so hard. The N64 only succeeded the SNES on a 1st party level, for people that only bought Nintendo games

>TG16 (PCE)
>Weird 2x VDP architecture
Has literally nothing to do with PCE. Unlike Saturn you don't hear about devs who struggled making games for it.
>Genesis
>Third parties are much weaker and mostly consists of Western titles
You are officially retarded. Unlike Nintendo, Sega aggressively built relationships with third parties like EA, making sports titles a huge system seller. Even prior to the end of Nintendo's monopoly agreements you had devs like Capcom licensing out their IPs like Strider for Sega to port themselves. People are also reevaluating many Genesis and SNES ports and are finding more often than not the Genesis versions look and sound worse but play much better.
