>It's all gimmicks, artificial difficulty and Memezo levels of bullshit
I'm starting to cement the idea that retro vidya's difficulty shouldn't be tampered with since these hack devs and script kiddies don't know how to properly balance this shit and have absolutely no clue on how to "fix" the games. Same goes for toning down a game's difficulty. Either take the games for what they are or play modern vidya that improved/expanded upon their concepts.

Why go through the BS of learning a new game and physics engine when I can just play harder Mario?

This board is such a larp fest like The Truman Show, it might as well be your default personality.

Why are you dictating your play selection based off of what other people think? Play what you enjoy. Stop being a braindead zoomer who thinks hard difficulty = badge of honor, cause at the end of the day you’re still a faggot.

I like Memezo levels.

ACTUAL SOLUTION: get rich and pay talented people to do good work on whatever romhacks you want them to create for you

>Game is considered "too easy"

>subtle AI tweeks that don't amount to anything because of how easy this game already is
>Flat 200-400% bonuses to all enemies with awful balance to the point that trash mobs are more dangerous than boss fights

Easy games, hard games. It doesn't matter as long as they're a fun experience.

I am against romhacks because I just have no interest in something fake using a property they don't own, I'd be more interested if people just made original games from the ground up.

I think they're neat, there's a lot of games that have nice controls and mechanics but don't really make good use of them, like Kirby games. Sometimes they go a bit far but that's what happens when the person creating it has a ton of knowledge about the original game, and I think those are interesting in their own right. Like that one Kirby's Adventure hack with Quick Man's stage that's far harder than the original Quick Man, that kind of stuff is fun. Difficult games are fun.

Even slight value changes, if done cleverly, can change a game, but many of those just give everything tons of health without much thought and that just ends up being boring either way.

Sometimes fanmade content of an existing property is very creative and enjoyable. Sometimes even more enjoyable than the original base game imo. I think you're kinda missing out with that mentality.

Mega Man, Mario, and Pokemon games have some great rom hacks, and then there's classic Doom with its insane amount of creative wads out there.
People can be creative and produce quality stuff without making an entirely new concept, and people can be uninspired and produce garbage with original assets.

at the end of the day difficulty is subjective. most of the meme difficulty mods/hacks/etc. you've come across were made by autists who need to rely on speedrun exploits to have any semblance of a challenge because of how piss easy their game has become for them.

>>10328747
i tend to avoid hardcore/survival mods in sandbox games because it's either immersive sim autism or glorified cheats that betray the spirit of what an actual hardcore/survival mode is suppose to be.

Bedroom coders hacking and cracking games is a practice which often leads to fruitful careers in programming; By modifying existing assets and rearranging them into a new form they become something new. Romhacks are effectively a different form of coding than starting from scratch, just like collage being a different form of illustration than drawing from scratch.

Are you equally disgusted by fanart and remixes? Or is there something inherent to video games that makes you wretch?
