My rg353m crashed on RetroArch and now isn't charging. I've tried reseating the battery and multiple different chargers. Tried booting into Android and it didn't help either. Anyone have any ideas or am I out of luck? I've had it for about 6 months so I doubt I can get a replacement.

I don't believe it. there is not a single gamegear left in existence that has not failed. look up youtube repair videos about it, it's the opposite of a nintendo console, it's made like shit and you have to replace every capacitor inside and sometimes the power regulator ICs as well. it's so bad that you can just buy full replacement boards for the power regulator and the sound board, because so much needs to be replaced it's useless.

Cool thing; the longer I wait; the more likely it is that flagship phones drop in price. Next one will probably be something with 8 or 12 gb of ram and a fantastic gpu. Next one has def gotta be one that can play GC/PS2. All my phones have lasted me for years and years and because I play with a usb C controller. There's never any wear and tear on the phone itself. Best purchases I've ever made or not made (my stylo 5 was free from my sister) for handheld gaming. It just does everything with no need to mod or alter much and telescopic controllers are gettinf better with time too but I assume my razer kishi v1(i bought two for 25$ each) will last me a good long time. I save lots of money and I game with a really nice screen. Made it to the second disc of Legend of Dragoon now. Another month or two and should have it beat. For stuff below ps1 i use an lg premiere pro lte with a gamesir bluetooth. It's a smaller screen so it is my equivalent to the miyoo and rg minis.

The only limitation for titles is the lack of two analog sticks for the few PS1 titles that require them. I don't really see why Nintendo would care, indeed considering a sizable chunk of GBA games are in fact SNES ports(including quite a few games from Nintendo themselves), the GBA only having 4 buttons instead of 6 like the SNES didn't really seem to be an impediment(at least as long as you weren't doing a fighting game), and even though it has the full amount of buttons you see a lot less SNES ports on the DS compared to the GBA

What I care for is performance and sound quality. And maybe emulation to at least PSX.
Since this would be my first time with one of these handhelds, is there one that’s easy to use? My only experience with emulation was downloading random emulators on a Windows 7 PC 10 years ago, so not much experience. What would be the best way/website to download roms?

They're pretty damn nice to have for DC and feel great, yeah. Same for the new and waaay better sticks. Face buttons imo are better too, as are the front firing speakers I'd still go with the RP3+ over 2S for the bigger screen and better comfort. Even just going from 3.5" to 3.84" for 4:3 content makes all the difference in the world for my shitty old man eyes. In reality tho I'd just wait for the RP4 to have those triggers and sticks paired with a bigger screen and hopefully front firing speakers

Just get whichever one you want (sounds like you want the 3+), you can always flip on eBay or whatever when the 4 comes out if it looks like something you want. Faggot who adores the SF2000 here, who recently got the R35S and is getting a $15 X7 on Monday.
My most expensive device atm is the RG35XX, which I adore but mostly only use for PSX titles. The Retroid Pocket 3+ is seemingly my ideal handheld for DreamCast, N64, and even a little GameCube. Mostly wanting to play shit like Sonic Adventure 2 and Phantasy Star Online on a handheld. I have just been so delayed on catching up on titles released this year like Tears of the Kingdom and Armored Cored VI that I haven't had the time or money to get the RP3+ just to replay the same games I've played hundreds of times already throughout the years.

Not using Temu again, though, what I actually wanted was a 405V but Temu + its furious amount of discount codes didn't have any. Any of Retroid's recent releases are good starting points. I was able to play Mario Sunshine at about 2x resolution (albiet with graphical glitches), and Eternal Darkness ran just fine at 1.5x resolution. I was also able to boot into Fatal Frame for PS2 so these seem decently capable.

while there are cheaper handhelds that would fit your needs I'd say either the Anbernic RG35xx or Miyoo Mini+ would be your best choices, in most respects they're near identical it basically comes down to whether you feel having HDMI out(RG35xx) or built in Wi-Fi(Miyoo Mini+) is more important

I got a Backbone One on the Prime Day sale, been using that with my Pixel 7 to play 6th gen and PSP shit and it works very well.
I also have a RG351MP for everything before that but I kinda want to look into getting a different handheld because for as much as I like it, it's a pain in the ass getting GBA to look good on it, and it's in an awkward spot with regards to horsepower for homebrew ports. I'd have stuck to the RG280M because I found it was a good all-rounder even despite the screen being 3:2 instead of 4:3, but the OS on it was a fucking headache. If Anbernic made another handheld like it, complete with that snazzy blue and pink color scheme, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I was gonna get the Analogue Pocket's atomic purple version but I missed the preorder window thinking it'd happen in the afternoon, though I'm not beat up by it since I heard it was fucking impossible to actually land a preorder with the site going down and shit.
Basically, do any of you have good handheld recommendations for lighter systems? I could just use my phone + Backbone for everything but god finding good emus for those systems on Android sucks ass (maybe save for PS1 since Duckstation has a port)

I don't want to sound like a shill, but jesus christ my Pocket came in today and I'm in love. I've tried a lot of chinkhelds before and this is the first that just feels perfect both in terms of holding and playing. Just wish it could do PSX so I could play Rayman 1 (not the shitty GBA port) and SoTN but it plays pretty well everything else I want it to asides that.

If Analogue got off their lazy asses and fulfilled their orders, updated their shit to allow display filters on OpenFPGA and maybe dropped the price by about $50 I'd seriously recommend it to everyone. For now though, I'd still recommend chinkhelds to most people.

I bought the RG35XX instead and I'm glad I did. It's a bit bigger which is honestly only a good thing, the controls aren't as cramped. Main reason I went with the 35XX is because the battery compartment on the mini plus is a nice idea, but I've always fucking hated those things on handhelds, they rattle and move when you adjust your fingers, and the one on the mini plus is massive. You can still swap the battery in the 35XX anyway, you just have to take the back off with a few screws.

The Miyoo Mini made some sense if you wanted a tiny handheld, the Mini+ just seems superfluous. Plus, it was like twice the fucking price of the 35XX, I don't know if prices have changed since then though.

Anon, the RG280M is 4:3 and not 3:2. The same goes for the RG351MP. The only Anbernic devices that are 3:2 is the RG351P and RG351M.

yep, 505 imo. d-pad in the correct position unlike 405, good chip and battery life unlike 503. 405 has a better aspect ratio for most stuff, but the 505's screen is just better quality and still maintains 4" of 4:3 space. nah, retroarch's interface is garbage. the best for android emulation is to use a launcher like Daijisho that gives you a nice unified UI. it's a bit of a pain to set up but it's worth it.

You obviously have black bars left and right when the game isn't 16:9, which is true for most games. Retroarch can display game art or bezels there, but i never bothered.
I also have the RG35xx, OP is my pic, the half inch larger picture in 4:3 is worth it in my opinion. Also easier to grip because of it's larger size.

i have gamma os on my RG405M yeah. It's a bit of a pain to install because you have to unlock the bootloader like on a phone, but I just followed a guide and it all went fine (after I realized I accidentally skipped a step).
It has better drivers than the stock Anbernic android (iirc it takes the drivers from the Retroid Pocket 3+), so it gets better performance, and you can put the console in low power mode to get insane battery life for the less demanding systems - I played through Zelda LTTP on one battery charge.
GammaOS comes preinstalled with daijisho and retroarch for stuff up to PS1, but for the other systems that need standalone emulators you will need to install those yourself and add them to daijisho.
and yeah check out retro game corps for guides on gammaos and android emulation in general.

Ordered a cheap dock to play my Steam Deck at my desk.
I have my official dock in the living room and I love using it on occasion, but going for harder clears in my bedroom I switched to using a separate input device which took up the lone USB-C port and meant I had to play on a timer. That's not a bad thing in of itself however I also realized I played better when I held the screen right in front of me instead of sitting away from it. I tried searching for elegant hub solutions and the ones that looked decent enough to me were multiple times more expensive than the dock I ordered.
This is going to sound incredibly peculiar but in some way I feel like I'm defiling the purity of my device and playing experience. Obviously I still have my PC but my Deck is now where I put nearly my entire library that I don't /need/ to play on PC including retro titles and emulators.
Now instead of a device I keep in the case at my bedside, it will spend nights plugged in at the dock. Instead of merely laying it atop a tablet holder, I must spend an extra moment with my HDMI switcher. Instead of being able to seamlessly carry it from my desk to the edge of my bed while still charging, I must now completely untether it to any power. Though not entirely retiring, my Steam Deck's time as a majority handheld device is now over. And it's sad to me. If only Valve had included sticks, pads and buttons that inspired more confidence they could stand up to demanding use. If only Valve had designed the onboard controls to be more modular and easier to modify, replace and even detach. If only Valve had just given it another USB port, whether 2.0 or USB-C. Alas, almost surely by this time next month my Steam Deck will be a handheld only by the life it lived. As memories of whimsical days pondering the possibilities of Proton peter out, proving to play the better half of all titles that can be named, it graduates into a sober and serious console.

I bought my RP3+ primarily to run PSP in high resolution as well as emulating retro consoles like NES, GBA, C64, and etc. My question is how does PS2 and Gamecube perform? Are they too demanding? I heard that dreamcast emulation is pretty solid.

V90 guy from the starfox/ssx3 threads here, I was about to get that sf2000 and a RG404 or 305M or 505 whatever model number it was with the metling screen, got cyberbullied into getting a RP2s, then upgraded to the RP3+ and suddenly everyone went full-meltdown that I upgraded their suggestion. Goddamn did that handheld come in clutch. Hooking into the TV was cool on my trip, doom with tilt controls was legit, never even used the media player, battery lasted the whole way, phone lasted nearly two days. Played SSX3 on gamecube, Crazy Taxi dreamcast, FFX ps2, skipped over android games and GBA/SNES/GENESIS/PS1/N64. Wish I had more downtime to use it but it was perfect for the on-off time during the trip. Barely scratching the surface on this thing but having that extra controller is a must if you want to use the big screen with it. Want to do wii on it soon so I can take it to neighbors for party night. If I can hook in a dolphin bar I could use this thing everywhere.

I have almost the same problem on a old version of GarlicOS where when I start a game or quit retroarch the bright level goes down. To fix that I just power off and power on again the RG35XX with the game open, because of the auto save the game comes back where I left and the bright level is fixed.
In my case the new version of GarlicOS already fixed this issue, but I'm just lazy to update and just want to play games.

A Deck should max out at around 8 hours constricting the chip to 3w, more than enough to emulate all of snes. Obviously it can't compare to the fucking 25 hours Odin 2 is getting, but it's far more than 4. It's better than (almost?) all of the arm Linux handhelds like rg353ps, miyoo mini, rg35xx, rgb30, etc etc can get emulating it due to their much smaller batteries for instance.

I've talked about it; but this is my LG Premier Pro LTE. Phone is like 50$ on ebay nowadays but plays all the old handheld systems like wonderswan, nes, gameboy. Most of snes. I do admit games like Kirby Super Star for snes suffer a tiny bit of slowdown at points but has been playable. This is mostly my GBA machine. I use the Gamesir X2 bluetooth with it. Quite fun; I habe like 4 of those old phones laying around so I'm basically set on GBA/neogeo/gc/wonderswan/90% of snes for life.

UPDATE: out of NOWHERE. My Razer Kishi V1 stopped working. I had left it connected in my backpack all day while at the dentist and at some point while playing at home it just stopped registering/staying connected. I thought maybe it's a hardware issue. So I pulled out my second brand new razer kishi with more recent firmware instead and THAT one didn't work either. I find it very strange. My controller worked for almost a year straight and then suddenly neither controllers old or new work at all. It's not a USB-C issue as the pass through charging still works just fine. I can charge and connect it to my pc with no issue. Very strange. There seems to be no reported solutions that I can find online. (there is one about enabling OTG but it's a newer phone and the option isn't even there in my settings anywhere anyways) Not gonna lie; am pretty bummed about it. A small 50$ loss, but a loss all the same. I really touted this controller for the longest and now I can affirm I'll never buy another Razer product so long as I live. I may have to try out the mocute options. I've transitioned to using my gamesir for now as that has never failed me. Almost feels like planned obsolesence. If any one has had similar issues and a fix; please post it.

Have a spotless gba sp 001 I'm probably going to sell as it's been collecting dust for years now. It's a little sad that devices that small aren't realistically usable for me anymore as the screens are too small, too dim, with buttons too cramped to comfortably use at my age. Nice memories.

Getting back to you; it DOES work on my other phone. :( leaving it on and connected in my backpack must've done something with it. Feels bad man; I'm sitting here with two kishis I can't use on my preferred gaming phone now. (thank god I got my backup gamesir.) Something I learned though; the app for kishi v1 isnt available anymore I even checked the playstore while resetting my other phone. So it seems impossible to update the firmware. Ok it gets a little wierder. I blew it out; but apparently it IS connected. When i change usb option to MIDI for instance, the light turns on, albeit temporarily which letse know that it IS there amd registering somehow. It's just not interfacing with this phone for SOME reason like its supposed to. Looking into any apps I can find to tinker with it on droidify.

God I wanna love the R35S for the $49 I got it for, but the fucking d-pad and face buttons being in the wrong place makes EVERY game a chore to fucking play on it, even though it actually does some DreamCast well and most DS flawlessly.
Meanwhile I find myself actually enjoying the X7's GBA abilities despite how much it fucking blurs up GBA titles trying to scale them, and the d-pad being four separate buttons, but for $11 it's infinitely better than any fucking "famiclone" shit that keeps getting perpetuated around here by that one guy.

I found myself "trying" Sonic Adventure 2 one on the R35S a ton longer than I anticipated, stopping at Pumpkin Hill. It goes back and forth between running faster than it's supposed to then having severe slow down even worse when the original version did.
Also, lmfao. I have Ark 2.0 on my R35S by default as its base OS but the way it renders and plays N64 games... they run at full speed but the textures fuck up worse than playing a Source game without CS:GO installed.
In the end I got what I paid for with the R35S but I can't recommend it. An X7 for $11 is pretty fucking sweet tho.

tldr;
X7 for $11 is an amazing deal and can run GBA games flawlessly, just at a very stretchy and blurry aspect ratio. D-pad is four separate buttons like the face buttons, which are all too tall and take too long to travel to register. Shoulder buttons are stiff as fuck and only actually click and work at the edges near the sides of the device, not the top of them. Both analog sliders are PSP analog sliders, but much stiffer. But again, $11 and with what it emulates and how well it does, it's cheaper than a fucking value meal at a fast food joint.

R35S is a fucking amazing, powerful device for its price and actually does stuff like DreamCast and Nintendo DS comfortably. Can do PSP as well but with a 4:3 screen it seems retarded so I deleted those titles without even trying them. Biggest flaw is how they 1:1 tried to copy the Powkiddy RGB20S because if the analog sticks were swapped positions with the d-pad and face-buttons it would be fucking amazing, but as it is, all systems are uncomfortable to fucking play on it. Especially with Ark 2.0 defaulting the DreamCast's L and R buttons to L2 and R2 without mapping them to the second analog stick, so games like Sonic Adventure 2 you gotta fucking REACH to control the camera and use the face buttons to jump/homing attack/spin dash/bounce/light speed dash/etc.
But I really, really adore how DreamCast games look on the R35S's screen despite the pixels. It feels like playing a native DS game on a Nintendo DS, but with DreamCast graphics.

I rarely swap out the stock OS for these handhelds, usually just playing what's on them outside of maybe adding two, three, or a dozen specific ROMs I want to add. I think my R35S came with only five DreamCast titles, so I deleted the PSP folder to make room for eight specific DreamCast titles I wanted to play on a handheld like Sonic Adventure 1, 2, Shuffle, Shenmue 1, Virtua-On, and Jet Grind Radio. Final update: after looking online apparently there's a LOT of people having the same issue. I go back to affirming that it's an issue with Razer as no ome can get a straight answer from the company. One controller is firmware 2.7 the other is firmware 2.9 and both have the same issue. I can safely say Ive tried out every potential solution I can find and have reaffirm that my support for razer products is gone. I'll have to pony up for a backbone or something if I want a usb c direct connection again. Cest la vi.
