>some mod dev shits on a track mod team
>track mod team deletes everything
>in response, said person who shitted on the track modder also shuts down and deletes everything
The absolute state of NR2003, 20 years later.

Video game modders are some of the most mentally ill people on the planet. If you want to see meltdowns just follow modders

There are several mods (mainly tracks) that were lost because of it.

They are not alone. Some filmmakers can also take the cake.

the racing game modding scene got mod hoarders, practically nothing is lost media.. except bad paymods that no one wants to buy
afaik nr03 also had a happening where a guy got super upset at people taking his mods and reuploading them so he took down all his shit...or something like that

>modders nuking shit off the internet because reasons
I hate that shit. The one that bothered me the most is that guy who was modding all the new M:tG cards into the old Shandalar program. Some dipshit starts harassing him since not every card was 100% implemented right this second(literally started threatening to complain to Wizards of the Coast if the modder didn't fix everything RIGHT NOW), and the modder ended up pulling all the stuff and leaving the scene. You can still find some older versions(MTG Shandalar 2010, etc), but I've never seen any of the last releases before it got pulled posted anywhere.

Exactly what it sounds like. Instead of obscure prototypes they hoard rare mods that have been scrubbed from the world wide web

yeah you read that right. this is rare, but i see it increasingly often with assetto corsa right now. people click download on literally anything with a link, then go on reddit to brag about their 2tb of complete piece of shit cars and tracks that probably dont even load in game.
makes no sense, but i have no room to complain because thanks to these retards wasting their hard disk space, some mods deleted by the authore could be recovered.

A lot of these games hosted mods on sites that started dying a decade ago, when their initial popularity waned. I witnessed it with Generally and later rFactor, with some mods for the latter that could only be acquired via a dude that used his own home server to host his whole multi TB stash. Even that one recently closed down.
I personally keep a bunch of them I like backed up, but I really should look into sharing the rarer ones.

Even worse is that Assetto Corsa (not /vr/, I know) has a way that allows modders to encrypt the 3D models so they cannot be ripped or modified (see picrel). You also need some specific mods to play with them too. Ironically, most encrypted mods tend to use models ripped from other games.
>>10276604
One of issues with that project is that some mods that were not yet lost were also reuploaded. Also if you're referring to the NR2003 Encyclopedia, the person behind it is also a drama magnet on its own.

To which their ownership of NR2003 code also almost killed the scene in 2009, because of mods that alter the physics at executable level.

rFactor 1's code was originally EA F1 2002/F1 Challenge 99-02 to begin with.

It helps that Generally mods are lightweight. You happen to still have the link?
