I've been going through Paper Mario for another run and it's still a blast

I also revisted my FireRed save and beat the Sevii Islands, was a great re-dive into the game and the rematch for the Elite Four was great and an actual challenge, especially considering the type makeups directly counter a lot of my favorite pokemons and a lot of them have Earthquake and Thunderbolt. I liked that though. More battles should actually be challenging instead of just using opposing types

Just finished 100%ing Spyro: Season of Ice and got all the retroachievements. I really wanted to like it because its clearly meant to be a direct sequel to Year of the Dragon, but the isometric view made platforming obtuse, and the zoomed in camera with no radar made tracking down gems tedious.
My biggest roadblocks were the Space Age Speedway and its strict time limit, and fucking up some of the platforming and having to hunt down and recollect all the respawning collectables because depth perception in this game is near nonexistant.
Supposedly the next to GBA games are quite a lot better, so I'll be looking forward to playing those at some point.

Going through Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, just started Final Fantasy V and am about to star D. I played some Dino Crisis 1 and stopped at the pipe puzzle and might just drop it. Also Honkai Star Rail on the side for dailies every day, but that's not retro.

Was playing the PlayStation Interactive Sampler Vol. 4 out of nostalgia.

Nothing vr lately, but if I were playing vr it'd be the psikyo collection. Wait, I played king of dragons last night.

I've finally got round to starting Metal Gear Solid on PSX. I felt it's culturally significant enough to warrant playing through it at least once.

JSRF through Xemu, the sound has some hiccups and there is an effect used in Xbox games that brings my 4090/5800X3D to its knees. If you don't speed boost you're fine, makes me think later levels will be unplayable. I forgot how fucking good the soundtrack is. The resolution upscaling is unbelievable, and JSRF really benefits from it. The other game I tried was Halo 1, and the scope feature of the pistol has the same slowdown that the JSRF boost does. Something about the screen distortion just wrecks it. I may hop back to PS2 to play Burnout: Takedown just because it's smoother. Xbox emulation will surpass PS2 emulation in a couple of years at this rate of speed.

Yesterday I've entered frog casino. So far I'm getting wrecked by every minigame and losing collected frogs like mad.

I promise you that it looks better at the size I'm playing it with upscaling. This game holds a special place in my heart, I'm in Shibuya now and I think that people who have never played it before could be entertained by it despite the age. I'm going to play XIII after this and maybe Viewtiful Joe, all of the cel shaded games probably hold up really well.

i started ff6. it's pretty cool, but it's very clear that there's a bunch of party members but only a few of them really matter which isn't to my preference. great atmosphere and art though.

How feasible is xbox emulation? I've got a 5600X/3080. I also have the console, but I might want to stream a fatal frame 1/2 playthrough or some shit.

Finished Ace Combat 4 and Gitaroo Man. AC4 was alright, didn't like the yellow 13 story that much, it had potential but I felt it went nowhere. I didn't even noticed I took him down in Farbanti with all the chaos surrounding that mission.

Gitaroo Man was fantastic, easily one of the best rhythm games I played, up there with Bust a Groove and Space Channel 5. Hard as balls but I kept coming back to it.

>Alright, you lot, what've you been playin' lately.
I've just finished replaying Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Master System! It's one of my favorites and it had been a while since I played it for the last time really... it often gets a bad reputation due to the difficulty in the Game Gear version, thanks to the smaller resolution and a ton of things not being adjusted to it, with the 1st boss being the major example of this... but playing on a resolution you can actually see what's coming, it's superb! I love the level design, how it has all original levels, not counting Green Hills or course, Silver Sonic, dark atmosphere, but still lighthearted, besides Tails dying in the bad ending... and finding emeralds in the levels instead of special stages is a lot more fun to me too, it's just a blast to play.

Arc the Lad 3 still. It's taking me quite a while, 45 hours in and 85/102 quests done. Really enjoying it though and I'm glad I gave it another chance.

I'm thinking about doing a little DKC marathon soon, including the GB games and DK64 - another game I've been pretty hard on in the past that I want to reassess.

PlayStation Doom. 100%' ing it. spent over an hour last night clicking every wall trying to find the last secret in Unholy Cathedral before caving and looking it up only to find out there's a bugged secret wall that is innaccessible. I vaguely remember spending a lot of time trying to find that last secret as a kid.

Started breath of fire today. It's nice to play a quaint regular RPG for the first time in a while. Been enjoying myself so far. I just got to the town where there's a wizard turning girls into zombies. What an asshole.

Been replaying Shiren 2 since I was an imbecile and deleted my save. My main goal is to beat this endgame dungeon called Road to the End.

I've been playing Dragon Quest I. It's been quite a while since I've played a JRPG, and the ones I have played have been mostly Mario, so I felt like going on a binge of JRPG's, starting with the classic. It's fun, but it feels grindy. I did accidentally make it harder on myself a couple of times (I missed the chainmail armor until I could almost afford the iron armor, for example), but I can tell it's not just me. And at first it didn't seem like there was much to do, but I think the game will start to open up a bit more. I just came across the first key shop so I'm gonna do a lot of backtracking to find locked doors, and the holy water should make that less annoying. I also think a lot of the hints the NPCs have been giving are gonna become relevant soon.

I'm using a 4090/5800X3D and it's great at 10x upscaling except for certain games and effects. I mentioned the pistol scope in Halo and the speed boost effect in JSRF, both have massive slowdown. It's pretty good, but if you have an original Xbox I think it's still the best right now. Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is playable with two players at 10x upscaling. Couldn't you just capture the stream like people used to do before OBS?
