- Late release (Playstation was leading)
- Expensive (£250)
- Price was cut within a couple of months afterwards making mugs of people who had just bought one).
- Apart from Mario, Zelda, Goldeneye lack of games and variety

This was the beginning of Nintendo's slippery slope with third party support which only got worse with the Wii and eventually the Wii U. Almost any 2D game also got dumped onto GBC without much thought, though there are a few notable ones like Mischief Makers and Rakuga Kids. Without Midway and Rare though there wouldn't be much to look at

Also, the controller kind of speaks for itself. It's kind of comfy I guess, but still

After the nightmare scenario of having the SNES tech and coding language stolen and copied by SONY to create the Playstation, Nintendo became insanely guarded with the tech even to the point of gimping their own producers by not revealing or distributing the processor instructions, compiler, or allowing microcode changes to the processor.
Without full understanding of how the machine worked, while really fun games could still be made, and were made, the 'stumbling around blindly' with the tech and controller options made for a difficult development road.
