That too is subjective. For the story it really didn't matter what your team was. Just level the mons enough and you'll easily get through the game as most kids did. Even then you probably want to just over level maybe 3 at most anyways since that is the better way to do it.

Which starter did girls tend to pick? Pokemon is generally little girl friendly given the prevalence and marketing of cute Pokémon, but all of the starters become increasingly badass and aggressive looking as they evolve (and they evolve into their second stages relatively quickly).
Some of the later games remedied this by having at least one starter which remained somewhat cute through all of its evolutions, though in R/B all of the starters wind up as gruff monsters which look like they want to kill anything thay moves.

>gay people were playing Digimon, not Pokemon.
Kek thats not true by any metric. First of all, they'd definitely choose Tomagatchi or Gigapets which were unisex or leaned girly/cute over Digimon which was the boy branded "HARDCORE" digital pet. Digimon pet games were like made of cracked brick designs to show how "tough" they were.

>Bulbasaur: stoners
>Squirtle: nerds
>Charmander: neurotypicals OR total schizos
It's more like
Bulbasaur: girls
Squirtle: cool contrarian guys
Charmander: lame basic guys

When it comes to the digimon anime, the same exact logic flow applies when it comes to favoring the green cactus, the blue wolf, or the orange lizard.

There are plenty of mons that will steamroll the E4 for you. As said the games really were never all that difficult even for kids. If you over leveled even just one monster while keeping the rest in line maybe with the E4 levels and bring tons of heals and revives with you then you are guaranteed victory. Bring say an overleveled snorlax and give it moves like hyper beam or body slam and thunder wave then yeah you are going to easily get through the game. You'd have to purposefully take a really garbage team with you and make them all either at level or below to lose.

Dugtrio could also steamroll for you, Charizard with flamethrower/Blast/Hyperbeam, bring Alakazam, etc. Its just how the games were made.

It kind of makes the games a bit flawed imo because of that. I guess its a side effect of how they work being turn based RPG but it really kind of throws the whole team dynamic the games are supposed to be about in the trash lol. Its almost like its contradictory in a sense. Easier to just over train one monster then have a dream team that you train and it also makes the game itself easier as well.

squirtle was imo. i did a double playthrough of gen 1 recently. used bulbasaur in red and squirtle in blue. each starter is pretty busted overall but i think squirtle got the best deal. the TMs it has access to allow it to become ultra strong earlier. bulbasaur gets access to razor leaf, which alone is pretty damn busted in the game but by the time mine was able to learn it, the turtle already had access to bubblebeam, dig, and ice beam. now granted it's a baby brain kid's game and you can beat them however you want. but it's just some thoughts i had after i played the games. was gonna do a charmander run but i got bored of the game after the second run. maybe one day in the future.

Ive always been form over function for pokemon, they always had to look cool. None of them looked cool to start, but Blastoise had those cool water cannons so you always picked squirtle, and Lowe's and behold, your first gym was all rock type, once again proving squirtle was the only choice unless you liked dinosaurs so much that you actually enjoyed Jurassic Park 5,6,7,8,9 and 10, then you picked charmander. Gen 2 it reverses and you skip the water type and go to fire because you get typholsion and even the tiny typhlosion was sort of cool even though he was made of 3 triangles in his first form on GBC.

Of course none of this matters now because the game is designed to take 120hrs to play whats really a 20hr game at 6x speed. How anyone plays this at 100% speed I dont get, I could be stuck in an autoshop waiting room and get bored trying to play pokemon now, go right back to pretending to watch the daytime tv show on mute. 90's entertainment was slowmotion as shit how did I ever put up with it aside from just not knowing any alternatives?
