You can switch to original graphics apparently.

I hope it gets a PC release, so it works flawlessly out of the box, had trouble with the old versions on steam.

Kind of weird thing to do, to remake the graphics but not make them exactly modern. Not sure who is it for. Are they targeting mobile?
Will it have VR support at least? Then I might consider.

They're not on the modern platforms that people actually play on these days, other than PC. You can still use the original graphics even, so there's no downsides unless they fuck up the gameplay somehow.

I don't want a remaster to alter character models.
I don't want it to alter game-play mechanics.
I don't want it to remove players ability to apply mods.
I don't want it to log into a remote server to perform any functions whatsoever.

Running easily on a new OS is fine, and is a given.
I don't mind if they want to slightly sharpen textures, as long as they don't overdo it or ruin the mood. If you've gone more than x2, you've gotten greedy.
Some of those textures don't tile, and I would be fine if they want to remedy that, if they can do it in a way that doesn't create some new weirdness.
There are some in-game scenery objects that are floating sprites that always face you. I would be fine if they made some simple models for some of those.

I kinda dig it honestly. I like how it looks sort of like a Dreamcast or OG Xbox game. Feels like a remake you would’ve seen on early 360 or something. It’s a bit odd but I think a good look in its own way. As long as the gameplay is mostly preserved I have zero complaints really

It's okay for the price, considering original graphics are still available as well.

It's a quick and dirty higher res texture job slapped on so zoomies buy it too.
Honestly can't complain.

They don't call it a remake, they call it a remaster.
For 20 bucks thats fair imo.

People seem to not know or have forgotten what mastering/remastering means.

"Mastering" is the process of converting source material (eg. 35mm film) to a widely used format (eg. dvd). The dvd that was obtained from this process is the "master record" and all other dvds produced would be copies of it. If you wanted to change it in some way you would have to remaster it from the original source.

The term "remastered" became a huge marketing term for selling blurays and the like because people heard it was "remastered", ie. so better than the dvd, sometimes this worked even for tv shows that were shot in high quality film. However apparently the vast majority of them didn't even know what the term remastered means if they see nothing strange about calling these games "remastered". Remastered from what? The real Lara Croft?

How dense are you guys?

It's not a remake of the game, all they are doing is updating the visuals with the textures and more polygons. That's it.

You can toggle back to the original visuals if you choose. It's literally what /vr/ should approve of the most. Some of you obviously just want something to whine about.

That's not entirely true, they're perfectly fine solutions options for the present. Emulation is a great option, but you also have to remember that it took time for emulators to the point where they are now.
Plus even though PC ports are typically far better in terms of delivering visuals and resolutions far above than what can be achieved on a console, there's also the risk of them becoming depreciated over time, either due to OS incompatibility or there just not being a dedicated group of modders to fix the game. And not everyone had the hardware to play them maxed out when they came out, either due to poor optimization and being a bad conversion, or because there just isn't hardware that can run it above of what you can get on console.

Lara looks like she's from a much later game, the walls are way too detailed, and the skeleton on the floor looks like a fallen ragdoll
It looks weird when you look at how blocky everything is and how its clearly not meant to look like that at all, looks like some modder's first attempt at a HD mod

Either they go through the game and really take some time to make everything look good by adjusting it to the new look, or it's just going to look fucking awful

Being able to turn the "upgrades" off is nice, but I kinda wish it was more of a slider than a switch.

It's nice if they "based" her new model on the higher poly model that they had used in old promotional material, but I would really prefer the actual model from the promotional material, even if it has less polygons than the new one.

Having higher detail textures is nice, but when you go too far, you're just kinda standing on wrapped Christmas presents.

I want an in-between game.

Christ, this is just a texture pack being repackaged as a remaster and makes the game look more dated than need be.
They didn't even bother with adding a more polygons to the sand to make it LOOK like collapsed sand for fuck sake. They could've shaped it like Minecraft's water/lava if they're that lazy.
Something like the fucking Halo Anniversary Collection is more of a remaster than this.
