Good system but lots of missed potential due to the shitty controller. Here's how you fix the GameCube controller:
>make it bigger so it fits into white people's hands
>make the B button a bean like X and Y so that you can do B+Y (the prototype controller was set up like this)
>have a proper right stick instead of the shitty unusable nipple (it's telling that the premier FPS on the system didn't even use it for aiming)
>it has less buttons than the N64 controller (two handles); it needed a ZL button
Clicky sticks would be nice too as would getting rid of the retarded octagon around the sticks, but these are the main things that fucked the controller

Furthermore, the controller didn't concord with the rest of the GameCube's design language. The logo and console were very angular, yet the controller was a round Fisher Price toy. These GC-style controllers for the Wii U were on the right track.

Gamecube games I've played

>Sunshine
It feels over-hated. I think the music and levels are lovely. It's not as soulful as SM64, but it's still pretty great. I think I actually like it a lot more than Galaxy.

>Luigi's Mansion
I couldn't get into it.

>Double Dash
I remember liking it much more thank MK64 at the time, but I keep hearing that it's broken.

>Wind Waker
Decent game, but it's nothing compared to Ocarina and Majora.

>Pikmin
It's a pretty sweet title that combines RTS and adventure. Short and succinct, although kinda janky.

>Star Fox Adventures
I liked the 1 or 2 hours I played of it. Not sure what else to say.

>DK Jungle Beat
Awesome underrated game that is casual but very satisfying.

>Super Monkey Ball
Great game that converts the Marble Madness formula into 3D. It's fun.

what if nintendo goes sony: the console. They tried to make a more mature/hardcore console, with quite some room for left-field projects, but in the end they couldn't compete with sony. Best third placed videogame platform ever, has a healthy varied library

atm one of the coolest/best systems to collect for, and ime the one that mesmerizes normies the most

Didn’t have one growing up, but my cousins had one. We spent a lot of time playing games together (myself, my sister, and two younger cousins).
I remember playing Mario Party 7, WarioWare Mega Party Games, Super Monkey Ball, Mario SuperStar Baseball, Super Mario Strikers, and Kirby Air Ride with them. Good times.
My cousin who got the GameCube all those years ago (younger cousins’ older brother) gave me his GameCube games, so I played other stuff like the SpongeBob games (Battle for Bikini Bottom and the Movie game were great) and Paper Mario. Also had a few of my own games before that like both of the Bomberman games and Mega Man Anniversary Collection.
Lastly, played Mr. Driller Drill Land’s remaster on Switch (originally GameCube exclusive) and it’s probably my favorite game from the system.

Worse versions of N64 games usually + RE4 + MP 1/2 - dudebro games

>> No.10241381

Feels like 2 steps forward, 1 step back compared to the N64. Generally I like it better than the 64. It still relies on first party way too much and losing Rare really hurt them (though Rare did jack shit on the Xbox so who knows). Most of the Nintendo stuff is refined versions of N64 games and they definitely feel less ground breaking. Third party support is generally better but it still felt like Nintendo was fighting for scraps. Resident Evil 4 rules though and is the best game on the system. Awful controller and the general aesthetic of the whole thing meant no one really took it seriously and it never had the broad normie appeal that the Wii did.
The GBA connectivity was a bitch to set up but worth it. Four Swords with my friends might be the most raw fun I've ever had playing a video game. Played Double Dash to death in college.

I wish the Mario Baseball game on it got more recognition, my friend and I had a blast playing it when we were kids. In general, I don't get why most stoners I know get an N64 instead of this thing considering how most games on the GameCube are a straight upgrade to N64 games (except for Mario Party, which I can't speak for since I never played MP on the GameCube).

Better than the N64, with higher third party support and Resident Evil games. Nintendo also brought back Metroid and Fire Emblem, two series that would have given a little more variety to the N64 library.

A good console, with peak aesthetics, and one of the most comfortable controllers to hold, even if they dropped the ball with the lack of buttons in it, and the right analog stick, alongside the d-pad, feeling quite small.

It had pretty much the same library as the PS2 in many ways, but with classic Nintendo IPs, so it was superior, right? Well, they could've won it if that was all there is to it, but a lot of good stuff that came out on PS2 never did on Game Cube, the PS2 library is just perfect due to how much stuff there is... there's also the fact it was compatible with PS1, which makes it so its library, already immense, was actually even more diverse, and it made sense for people with a PS1 to just upgrade... also, going for actual DVDs, I don't think the mini DVDs were bad, but the lack of an actual DVD player, which helped the PS2 a lot, was also critical.

It was a stellar console, but made a few mistakes that you can't make against what was probably the rival that already had it all setup for another win.

I really loved the idea they had with the controller, A being your main action button at the center, and the other actions going around it, but the diamond is still better I think.

P.S. I was really disappointed when Microsoft revealed the design for the XBOX Series S and it wasn't a cube, such a simple, yet appealing design, should've been used more often in the industry.

Over-rated and over-hated at the same time. It had some missed potential like Mario and Zelda being rushed out the door, mini-DVDs, and seeming too kiddy in the "gamez r for matur and edgy adults liek me" era, but it also had metroid prime, melee, f-zero GX, the best Mario Kart, and two of the best resident evils. Also had the 2nd best graphics of that gen and I unironically love the controller.
