I think we can all agree that it wasn't him beating Super Mario Land 2, right?

Also I watched the Dragon Quest episode and it was fascinating to see how he sucked even at that. Constantly taking the wrong decisions and making the wrong moves, despite having been a DQ and RPG player forever. Now I understand why all Japanese players complained that Famicom RPGs were "too hard", fucking casuals.

>Season 27: Episode 9 (#365) "Uchimasu" premieres on Thursday, September 28th. Editor's Note: Working just with the King's kana hint, "Shoot" seems to be the interpretation likeliest to apply in a gaming
context, with "Beat" (like a drum) and "Conquer" being a couple other possibilities.

1. A shooting game - R-Type III or Gradius
2. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (2004)
3. Taiko no Tatsujin: Tatakon de Dodon ga Don (PS2 2002)

People didn't realize the series dates back to the PS2 era.

Yeah, SH is a solid pick and it's 90% possible it's going to be picked next year or the year after that.

>I still seethe about the fact that he went so close on playing a console version but the cart was broken

Also time for another America trip. They could also maybe do Canada which is functionally the same. Does the west coast Canada have any kind of arcade scene? If it's by Vancouver they could give Justin Wong a visit.

>> No.10233447

>>10233426
What's worse is that the cart wasn't broken. They were trying to display it on a type of monitor that can't sync with games using Super FX chips. If they had tried it on a regular TV, it would've been fine.

I sincerely hope you're right, because it would be awesome to see how he plays it and what he thinks of it. All his typical planning, the map drawing, or even the helpers would definitely shine in certain parts of the game. That being said, SH seemed so out of reach years ago, but now that he played Resident Evil, I'm not so sure. There are even new titles coming out, so this is surely the right time to make an episode about it. Anyway, I would also like a new trip, those are so cozy.

>> No.10233465

>>10233456
Yeah, they seem to have settled into the habit of PG rated horror game once a year in the summer, and one M rated title for DVD bonus. SH would work well in the latter. There's a suprising amount of horror-adventure games that lack blood as well like Fatal Frame too now that they've mostly finished up the Clock Tower series.

Feels like they need to go through more of those 16 bit ninja action games first. They only have challenged a single Shinobi game. Shinobi III is such a must play game.

The second game has a lot of questionable character designs which are lifted from many sources so it might be liscsening hell.

That's the only Shinobi title they've tackled. The MD overall has been a bit neglected, and as I said the second Shinobi game got into liscening issues so it might be a hard game to challenge. Shinobi X is also a suprisingly decent if ugly ass game.

I haven't seen the Zelda episode but for Dragon Quest it was obvious they were telling him where to go and what to do even when it wasn't told on camera, for instance he knew the "70 steps south, 40 steps east" clue for the item located in the swamp despite not having rescued the princess yet (and she's the one that tells you that). Even in something as simple as DQ he was constantly making stupid moves and mistakes like using an herb to heal 30 HP when the enemy deals 40 anyway, all to flee in the end. Anyone with a brain would have known to flee from the start.

How is this even going to work? Just beat 8-2? The mario challenge at Budokan was the absolute low point for how long it dragged on. The Messe one was only saved by that one audience member having a meltdown at Arino's terrible gameplay.

>Mega Man 2
He's already defeated wily in 2 even with the astrix of it happening after the live show was done. Also you know they're going to abuse save states on the WiiU.

>Contra III
No, Inoko MAX and it's there to give Arino an easy win since he already beat the final boss.

>Tokyo Bus Annai: Kyou Kara Kimi mo Untenshu
I don't see how they can make this not be a bore fest unless they drive an actual bus into the arena.

>Captain Tsubasa
This would work good in front of a live audience, but we've already seen this play it before, in front of live audience. Arino will get destroyed again using his original team, and then be forced to use a password with a grinded up team to win, again.

Could have easily have picked stuff like Klonoa and Dragon's Liar. And if Inoko MAX was around, have Arino get revenge in one of the wrestling games.
Or they could bring out Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix and have Arino get revenge against Kan while doing a fake out of having Kan's voice being recorded for the segment before he goes on stage and if he wins or loses.
So many interesting things, but they're sticking with safe bigger name titles.

Sam & Max Hit the Road, Simon the Sorcerer, one of the Discworld games or any of the old western Point n' Click adventure games, would be fun to watch him rage at the moon logic of some of them, especially for The Shadow of the Templars, I want to see the kancho be baffled by a simple goat.

How many of those got console ports? All the games they do are console games.

If you look them up, and they got a console port in japan, then go ahead and suggest them. They've played some Myst style adventure titles which have stupid logic akin to Point n click Advneture titles.

And there was a manga that actually depict the entire process of the show that occurs outside of Arino playing

I only know of Discworld which has all their games on Playstation but only in the West, while the first game was ported and released on Sega Saturn in Japan and EU, and is the only one that got released outside of the West. There's also Simon the Sorcerer which got released on the Amiga CD32, but that one was never released in Japan. Unfortunately the genre never took off on consoles as it did on PC, for many varied reasons, one which being that playing them on TV isn't that great of an experience, because as we all know it's a bitch to read text on TV.

No, but I've just assumed that it's mostly staged/scripted scenarios (e.g. karaoke in Takeshi's Challenge), emulation, pre-recordings, and save states; using the consoles as props. After all, it's television and everything on tv is fake.

Well that's it, I think I can't take it anymore.

I have been watching all the episodes of the show from the torrent more/less in order, and I was enjoying it, but starting from season 20 I started to enjoy it less and less. At that point the show started to become a mockery/parody of itself, everything feels wrong to me now for some reasons, from the forced meme, to Arino sucking more and more and trying his best to play as poorly as possible ( for instance every action game boss now it's just, you can be sure he will just stand still and button mash and attempt that at the very least 3-4 times before attempting to fight the boss for real; I can't say if it's because he's become lazy or if it's to make sure the show has "failures" so they have enough footage that matches the narrative but it's probably a bit of both)
and then all the episodes started to become redudant, like oh, let's do another Parrapa, then another rythm game, another Castlevania etc I know the selection of translated episode for those seasons is minimal, but all those EPs are just bad.

The entire "DID YOU KNOW? ARINO ACTUALLY INVENTED LET'S PLAY! BOW TO HIM!" forced meme in the Rondo of Blood episodes was the last straw. This shit is so fucking forced and it reeks of ego, probably a demand of Arino himself. BTW there was another TV show in another country that did LIVE condition gameplay with commentary and which started in 1998. Get off your high horse already.
