Home Alone for the NES is very jank and comes off as very difficult to last longer than 2 or 3 minutes against the two chasing burglers, even if you have multiple traps in your inventory.

Maybe it's just from playing the series too much, but I like X6 quite a bit over the others
The story is nonsense even for the awful franchise standard, but for some reason I like fighting a game that hates me.

>> No.10226142

>>10226117
It's a meme. The drop in quality is like 5% from X5. People probably hate on it because it's too hard for them.

>> No.10226208

>>10226142
No no, even as someone that can enjoy it, the lack of testing isn't hidden at all, it's hard for some really iffy reasons, even for an X game.
Heatnix, scaravich, and the first two sigma stages being the most egregious examples, it works 'okay' when you're playing as intended- taking and using all upgrades, but it falls apart a lot quicker when you try to deviate a little.
X6 always brings my mind back to this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl6QM4hUft8 and just what an awful time it is to try to toy around with the game beyond the 'best' way to do it

>> No.10226239

>>10224695
I still think it's a good game, but I can see people don't like it and think it's bad. I think they should have done a Metroid Prime thing and released it alongside Zero 1 while advertising X6 more like a spin-off or something like that.
>>10226208
I really wouldn't say it's that bad. The minimalist run is definitely impressive, but the person who made it chose to avoid using even X's saber, which does make the donuts a little more bearable as it deals damage every frame, and that's just one thing that X has from the start: getting even one weapon makes those far more bearable, even if they still aren't particularly fun to fight, and even the infamous area in the first fortress stage can be done in a ton of different ways. I'd say that a lot of the issues come specifically from the fact that the developers tried to make a game where you can toy around with things more: there's nothing as bad as Scaravich's stage in any other X game, but most other X games avoid falling apart like that per say also because they don't really try to experiment with that. X1, for example, cannot be beaten without armor buster only, as the final form of Sigma can only be damaged by Rolling Shield or the upgraded buster, but it's not an issue because the game forces the upgrade on you to avoid that. I think that by experimenting and happening to run into those issues X6's developers have made a game that's more interesting to revisit than most others, even if it ends up breaking many rules established by other X games and creating problems like making a pure minimalist no damage miserable. It definitely could have been more appealing if more polished, but I think the lack of polish and how much odd, almost sequence-breaking things can be done (like how a lot of items can be gotten early through unorthodox ways) make X6 a special game in it's own right.

Personally I liked the feeling of needing every benefit, X1 executed it well, and X6 tried retreading that sense of threat by making standard X not able to handle it again.
Being able to skip to the end area is cool, but I think the biggest issue X6 has is tied to that- it feels inaccessible for someone going through it the first time. Most people that enjoy it get all the tricks and gimmicks and have put themselves through it a few times, but those that understandably hate it are hit by things like forced game-overs for meeting highmax in a side area the first time. Or god forbid having to restart the console when a nightmare rapes a rescue sitting over a death pit for the third time.

>> No.10226379

>>10226313
I can certainly see that. I personally enjoy X6 the way it is, but I definitely agree that it's very unfriendly towards beginners. I think that what they could have done (if they had more time to polish the game) is keep a lot of the more egregious stuff in Xtreme mode only, while having it so Easy and Normal are more forgiving, like making it so rescues aren't instantly killed after an infection or allowing the player to beat High Max without any weapons or armors.

Yeah, it's just that kind of thing is why 6 has the reputation that it does, those things being what they are is what makes it difficult to approach, anon.

the only similar comparison is in mm2, having to die and grind energy on the worst enemy in the game, or game over to restock, if you misplace a single crash bomb on that one boss
