Got GBA within 2/3 months of launch. Cube in early 2002. Used dreamcast in 2002 or 2003. The holiday Xbox bundle with Tetris Worlds/Starwars whenever that came out. Neogeo Pocket Color when EB Games/Gamestop started selling the liquidated warehouse stock that completely made zero mention of SNK on the packaging. Pokemon Mini in mid to late-ish of the decade from a Canadian online store that had a bunch of them. Got a PS2 when the silver slim model launched. Likewise used an eMachine during the era to replace my 90s computer for peecee gaming. Only hardware i didn't get that i wanted from back then was the N-Gage.

I would pick PS2, but GCN has a really strong library.

PS2 had Sly, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo, MGS, God of War, Ico/SotC, DMC, Kingdom Hearts, and a ton of JRPGs,

Whereas Gamecube had Animal Crossing, Wind Waker+ Twilight Princess, Melee, Paper Mario TTYD, Pikmin, Star Fox Adventure + Assault, Viewtiful Joe, Super Monkey Ball, Metroid Prime, Rogue Squadron 2, and F-Zero GX.

Honestly though looking at that library I just named, GCN seems stronger, but I'm probably missing a bunch of games.

Then Xbox in third, then Dreamcast in dead last (one of the worst libraries of all time)

the options for you i can think of in ascending difficulty:
>tweak the laser pot to get it working long enough to use an exploit game
>replace the entire optical drive with a working one to use an exploit game (doesn't have to be the best drive available)
>solder a modchip to use a custom BIOS that doesn't require a locked HDD, and throw in whatever HDD you want with the requisite dashboard files on it
>solder a flasher to read the EEPROM to get the HDD key, then add softmod files to your HDD from a PC

I believe the xbox version of Jurassic Park operation genesis was better on xbox. I only played the PS2 version, so I'm not entirely sure of any performance difference but you got more game play available on xbox. I hope this list gets built upon and posted somewhere.

I replayed it on PCSX2 recently and I don't know if it's just the emulator but the transparency effects on shit like rain is horrendous. Good luck seeing a fucking thing if you play Virus on Night Club.
