For its time it's not really bad later HNK snes games are worse. HNK games peaked with the PS1 and Arc Sys game. I still don't like the (non-retro), Yakuza reskin very much. It felt like they were testing the dragon engine with an HNK skin and for some reason things like drivable vehicles aren't in Yakuza yet

I remember this one. You had to beat the eighth level to properly complete the game but it could only be accessed if you did the whole rest of the game with no game overs and using continues.

I've had this as a kid on multicart and I couldn't defeat the very first boss, he just didn't die for some reason.

Years later, got an actual Famicom cartridge, beat the boss, see what rest of the game looks like. Fucking shit, how can you fuck up something as basic as entering doors is beyond me.

I was playing this a few days ago. It’s actually good and punching guys actually makes the enemies explode just like in the anime. Hilarious fun and I did grow up with the 80s anime movie Fist of the North Star with that Rick Hunter voice actor as the punk kid with the dune buggy.

I did get to some part with a background wall and couldn’t figure out what to do next so the time ran out and then I died. I’ll go back to it later.

Another classic anime based game from this era is the SDF Macross nes/famicom game and it’s just as good.

Simple and fun gameplay that’s not too complex is what you sometimes want.

The Shin saga in the anime really was something else. So many weird filler villains and making some villains who were standalone in the manga become his subordinates. I've only read the manga once a long time ago but I don't think Jackal referred to his dynamite throwing as a martial art in that. Maybe I'm misremembering but it strikes me as a funny peculiarity of the anime in that anyone working for Shin had to be seen as a "martial artist" like the silly human cannonball guy.

This is probably the best HnK game I've played, although that is not saying much.
The RPGs suck, the first Famicom game was awful and Last Battle is basically the exact same game but worst (also censored outside of Japan which kinda takes a lot from it, and it already didn't have that much going on.)
