You ever come back to a game you played all the time during your childhood, and discover you can't play it for beans anymore?

i think that happened with power shovel apparently
i used to get massively high scores as a kid, only to be completely defeated by controls when i tried revisiting it

No, never. I used to play r-type blindfolded for shits and giggles. I didn't play for many years, but when my kids were old enough to get into real games we played it. I passed the first 3 levels without getting hit my first try. So decided to try blindfolded and made it to the first boss on my first try. Obviously not as good as I was back in the day, but hardly "can't play it for beans". After a few more games to clear out the cobwebs I was able to beat it without getting hit.

>Loved this game as a kid
>During quarantine, I got into the hobby of collection old games and started with the N64
>Found this again at a pawn shop and tried to relive those childhood memories
>Not even a minute into the game and I already want to stop
I have no idea how I managed to deal with those awful controls as a kid.

Most games I loved when I was a kid are still pretty enjoyable but some of them are definitely not. E.g. the pic. I was obsessed with that thing back then, tried it again a couple of years ago and found out that 50% of time spent in the game is about doing absolutely nothing, just waiting for resources to stockpile, weapons to be forged and castles to be finished.

Twisted Metal had serious input lag. back in the day we would just get used to it. that's not something I can do now.

>> No.10196178

If anything I wasn't good until later but got worse at nes stuff. Probably just takes playing it more

Lag seems normal, but 20 fps is bad indeed and vehicle mechanics are laughable. This game seemed shit to me even in the end of the PS1 era.

What? Seriously? You've been so brainwashed into conformity you forgot how to adapt? Holy shit, you need to try and force yourself to adapt again. For the sake of your brain plasticity. Don't fall into the QoL wall-E humans, PLEASE SNAP OUT OF IT

When battling the AI in classic Twisted Metal, it's best to cruise around and stock up on missiles, find an enemy, and then overwhelm them with what you've got. It's easier with Outlaws when you can spam missiles in the middle of the special.

Just come up with ridiculous shit without trying to manual (no manuals in thps 1). Spinning grabs to rail grind to board flip onto another rail for a special grind. Or just play THPS2 instead.

The AI is so bad that these games are easy until you play versus or network it

This is the MoH that aged the worst, even the PS1 games are much more playable today, as is Rising Sun (which was considered a much worse game than Frontline back in the day).
>stiff, horrible controls which cannot adjust sensitivity and doesn't have aim assist
>terrible hit detection (a problem that to be fair plagued the series even until Airborne)
>enemies that fake death and don't fucking die despite being mag dumped by a fucking BAR to their asses, or being headshotted 5 times
>bugs and glitches out of the ass
>no checkpoints or any kind of saving midlevel

It has soul, I give it that, but it's clearly the kind of game that has been cobbled together to make it work, barely.

>these games

The exception, in my experience, is Black. The AI is pretty challenging even on Normal.
