Now that it has a fully working video cord, my Atari 2800 is now officially in working order (Believe it or not, you apparently don't need a tv that goes to 95-96 for it). Just need a controller and some Japanese games.

Rare console thread?

Just a regular 2600 video cord. Plugged right in just like any other 2600 thankfully.

I love the way this Atari looks, though the 7800 is still my favorite Atari in terms of looks, just classy.

might as well stick to jrpgs if you need something easy to play

Well you're lucky. My tv never got a proper signal from it.

i thought it was region free?
shouldnt usa carts work on it?
should i get one of these too anon?
i already have: 2600, jr, 5200, xegs, 7800, jaguar

It is region free, I'm just saying I need some Japanese games in order to satisfy the collectorfag in me. Also if you can find one I'd recommend it just as a curiosity piece.

I spoke too soon I guess. Booted it up today and now the controller ports are beginning to be unresponsive. I'm hoping I just need to reflow them and I don't have to find a 2800 or Sears Video Arcade 2 and take the controller ports out of it.

you do realise 9 pin ports are everywhere for less than a dollar right.

Shit you're right. My retarded ass was thinking that maybe it had a special part that was one big piece instead of multiple ports kek.

Wasn't the 2800 a store exclusives or something? I just recall hearing of an atari that was like a stop gap between 2600 and 7800, something that could compete with coleco but still be at a low price.

I mean there was the 5200 but it was definitely more expensive than the colecovision.

Drawing entirely from my memory and not bothering to google ...
It saw release in the US as the Sears Video Arcade II.

It was released as the 2800 in Japan. My friend has some material from that time. A store had it on promotional display and gave away swag if you could hit a score on some game. He was already exposed to the 2600 in the US, so scoring the keyring he has was no problem.
