Spiderman and Warmachine are winning tournaments honey and strider is still being run to this day. It's not easy to escape as you're constantly put in 50/50s and high lows with tricky teleport set ups. Punching and kicking things is fun.
You listen to the pretty music.
You look at the pretty girls.
You get a little further than you did last time.
You learn how to use more of your characters tools.
You get better at the tools you already know.
Controlling your character becomes more natural and they begin to feel like an extension of yourself.
You start to be able to pull off crazy stuff you never thought you'd be able to do.
Sometimes you come up with a clever strategy in the middle of a close game and pull off an amazing comeback.
You learn more about fighting games and get more powerful and confident and creative.
Eventually you get good and you beat the final boss. Maybe you need a few continues, if you're really good you don't.
Then you pick a new character or a new game and do it all over again.

Actually, there are lots of people in all four of the games you listed who only play single player or against bots.
They aren't going to be as good as a top level competitive player, but they'll all be much stronger than someone who doesn't play the game at all.
I don't think anyone here believes that single player is a better learning tool than multiplayer or training mode. But it's still a learning tool and you can improve a great deal with it.
Fighting games especially are usually very execution focused. Having a combo down pat or memorizing a setup will transfer between all modes of play.
And multiplayer is not inherently more valuable than single player. I could just as easily say "Oh, you shouldn't play against humans, you'll build up habits that will hurt your ability to 1CC the game."
The point of playing games is to have fun and if someone has the most fun against the computer that's okay.
