It did not age, it was always like this. I do think it's not as good as other Mega Man games, I really dislike how there's a noticeable delay in the controls and how some of the bosses are absurd (when not considering just using the tons of E-Tanks the game gives you to bruteforce them). I think it can be fun, though.

Arguably 4 or 2. After 2 sold gangbusters there's no way the series wasn't going to be milked, but 3 and 4 actually had some gameplay innovation. 5 might be the most soulless classic MM, and 6 is solid but also lacking in creativity.
Also, obviously 11. It's the best classic game.
