I was replaying the opening to FF6 just now and realized I've looked at the Wererat sprite completely wrong for almost 20 years

Turns out the red part of the sprite is supposed to be the inside of its ear and NOT a pair of gigantic red eyeballs

i don't see it
the actual eye pixel is unmistakeable

I think its more subtle ingame with the dark mine background and in natural size, it pops a lot in my image

Here's another one thats stuck with me since I first played SF64 as a kid; I used to think Leons right eye (on the side of his face thats covered in shadow) had a bone poking out of it, as if he'd been in a horrible disfiguring accident and then just left the bone poking out of him and it healed around him

For whatever reason it always looked like a chicken drumstick bone to me

Yeah, can't see it cap'n.

This, on the other hand, made me kek.

Anyway, I always thought Mario's crouching sprite in SMB3 looked really odd. This isn't my pic, but rightmost is roughly what it looked like to me as a kid.

I have to hide the entire right half the Peon's face with my finger to even begin to see this one.

Mega Man X has a dog nose like a Disney character.

Also, if you REEEEEALLY look at it far away enough, it looks like a guy smiling with his hair covering his eyes in the Killer 7 style.

I think I get this one, like with the grey thing and beard (?) but where's the head? Then I'm like Oh yeah I see it but then lose it again. The size doesn't help of course

Terrible. These threads are so forced it is genuinely embarrassing. Even if there was a slight chance you were being serious about these crude interpretations, these examples require such an incredulous suspension of disbelief that no one else could possibly relate to them.

No, it wasn't. Isolated, without the context of the game (i.e. if you did not know what Mario looked like and you had not witnessed him transition from standing to crouching) then, perhaps one could be forgiven for wondering what the sprite was supposed to represent.
