Am I the only one on /vr/ who didn't care for this game? The only thing I kind of liked in it was City Trial and even then, I wasn't that into it

same here, even for casual matches with friends it's simply not engaging enough, mario kart hit the sweet spot there

This game was a lot of fun at the time if you had friends/siblings to play with. The game is fast paced and chaotic but the controls are baby-mode simple, and it's distinct enough from Mario Kart that it doesn't just feel like "that but worse." The game didn't really even have a single player mode, just a board of challenges simmilar to Smash Bros. I think it would have fared better if they had gone all in on either the standard race courses or on City Trial (maybe having more than one map for starters).

Nobody does this. The only praise this game gets is for City Trial and the OST which is like half ripped from the anime. Everyone thinks the main mode is gay and nobody even remembers the spinning top mode.

City Trial kept this game playable solo or in LAN with the little kiddos back then. My neighbor had the game as well, but they all rarely played it. I still have no idea how to beat the Dedede boss. It seems to be a simplified version of the Mario Party game. A good game to distract your kids/10.

the main mode is just racing and you can get any of the races as your main event in city trial. why play main mode when you can just play city trial which is that and so much more? It's not like the main mode is bad but there's no reason to play it separately unless you hate city trial

I liked the top-down racing game where each lap was like five seconds. I’d love to play a game like that today if it had like 100 or so courses or a level editor. It was surprisingly a lot of fun. Ironically, it’s the achievement system in the game that makes Kirby Air Ride addictive. Gives you a reason to replay the same few courses over and over.

I feel the same way op. I felt bad that i just couldnt get into what so many people considered a classic. The single button use is interesting, but I feel like having an option to assign functions for better control would also have been preferable and getting off my vehicle in city-trial just makes me wish for a big Mario Sunshine-esque Kirby platformer on the system.

I thought the game was incredibly dull. For people who like those randomizer/rougelike sort of games, they eat this one up because you build up the stats of your car for 5 minutes and then use it in a designated challenge. Honestly it doesnt sound like that bad of an idea, but in practice I found roaming around the city to be incredibly dull and brain rotting. Best part about the game was the novelty of playing with 3 Gamecubes hooked up over LAN.
