Is this version any good? Between this, the Wii virtual console version, or PC emulation, which would be the most ideal experience compared to the original?

>> No.10134756

All great choices. These releases run at 480p so that's double the original. If you don't have any interest in crts or scalers then just emulate it. Otherwise you just can't go wrong

I permanently retired my gold N64 Cartridge and placed it back in its box and have played this version exclusively ever since.

It's the 2nd best way to play the (non-3DS) game through official means. Best controls (same as Wii), rumble, the benefit of GC saves, plus MQ. Wii is technically only better for its resolution and use of the actual endgame cutscene rather than an FMV.
I recommend it.

I play this over the originals just because of the higher resolution. Controls work well with the GC, and so does the loading.

Original on crt or emulated with good shaders are better than anything else. GC ports are probably next in line, preferably with a suitable TV. Master Quest is pretty bad btw so don't get your hopes up.

Avoid Virtual Console, it lacks rumble which is needed by an item.
Master Quest is rather meh, peters out very early and ends up feeling like D-list rejected dungeon designs. If you're not planning to play through MQ, play emulated, either 1.0 or 1.1.

This. Modern emulation with ParaLLEl is literally the most accurate it can be if you can't play on real hardware. Several things are not rendered correctly on Nintendo's official re-releases, even today on Switch

Indeed, although there is a minor issue with the ending cutscene on all emulators regardless of plugins used where the cutscene plays a bit too fast and desyncs with the intended musical cues, causing the music to get cut off several seconds before it's supposed to finish playing. The GC and Wii versions IIRC also suffer from this though it's a teensy bit better. Ares seems to play said cutscene the best, though it's still not perfect. It's a minor gripe overall, though, and the rest of the game is flawless otherwise on ares, simple64 and RMG using paraLLEl.

OoT redux with only fast text and dpad boots on simple64 with an N64 controller (either NSO or with a raohnet adapter). It's all you need.

>> No.10135354

Honestly OoT combat is so ridiculously easy, especially considering you can have fairies, that I'd also at least double the damage taken

ParaLLEl is outdated. Either use Mupen64plus core, or better yet, use simple64.

He could be referring to ParaLLEl-RDP, the Vulkan plugin, not the shitty RetroArch core with that name. Seriously, what a stupid-ass move it was to name that core like that. It just served to confuse the fuck out of everyone.

How the fuck do you install that in Retro Arch then?

>> No.10136562

>>10136386
use the Mupen-64Plus-Next core, go into core options > RDP Plugin > select ParaLLel-RDP.
