speedrunning is never-ending. A 1cc is more like a potentially very lofty goal you set for yourself. You eventually achieve it and move on. Also I don't sit there all day playing 1 thing over and over to 1cc it, i'll try a couple times, come back another day, and so on. I like 1ccing, but I despise speedrunning.

This. 1cc and speed running are completely different goals. Speed running is autistic time chasing. 1cc is how just beating a game without dying (essentially) and idk about the rest of you, that was always a goal in all my freind groups.

Even though GV is a console exclusive with a bunch of friendlier play options, it's still pretty dang hard. Tougher than SNES III or Gaiden for sure.

I started playing Gradius games the last year so yeah I am still a beginner, rebirth was just a little harder than 3 snes but less cheap. Right now the hardest I 1cced is probably 3 snes with sa chip hack, which makes the game pretty enjoyable in my opinion.
V is the game that got me in the series, I had to play from the easiest ones like 1 nes because even the early boss rush in V absolutely destroyed me.
I am not so much in shmups or hard games but something about this series really clicked with me.
