Started playing Earthbound Zero. Thoughts on the game?

bring inhalers for truck fights. early on might seem tough, but it gets easier as you level.

Play it with the exp/gold hack. The game is painfully dated now, and the hack smooths out it a lot more, especially at the endgame, where game balance is just tossed out the window. Though, honestly, at the final dungeon, you should probably run from everything, just like at the Cave to Rhone in DQII.

Also, you'll probably need a walkthrough at some points. Don't be afraid to pull one up.

That mountain was ridiculous, the insides not so bad when you find out you can sap the hell out of that one particular enemy but once you go top-side literally every enemy encounter becomes a mini-boss fight.

One of the biggest flaw isn't really the need for grinding but the random stat growth when you level. One level you get 0 to most of your stats and another you gain 10 to nearly everything. Best advice I can give is save state just before defeating the enemy that will cause you to level. Keep reloading until you gain the stats you like. Sounds like a pain but trust me it's much easier then the massive amount of grinding you will need later on in the game.

I'd say the biggest flaw is that your party members don't really complement each other. You end up always feeling underpowered, especially when Ana gets slaughtered almost instantly at Mt Itoi.

you equipped the 2nd franklin badge on Ana?

For Mt. Itoi, the trick is to have the magicant hook and the memory chip left by EVE, if you have those 2 items, you can teleport to Magicant, get healed, then go back instantly to Mt. Itoi using the chip.

The thing with Mother is that the only PSI offensive character is Ana, Ninten only has support PSI powers, but he doesn't have any PK Rockin' or PK Love like the main characters on M2 and M3 have.
And, unless you do some hacking or weird sequence break, your party will always remain at 3 characters only.

I played it through the Mother 1+2 translation. Also the Easy Ring is for chumps. I had a fun time, but not as much with the sequels.

Speaking of 1+2, someone's working on the Mother 2 side of the cart, but has kinda run into a brick wall due to the fact that the translator stopped sending stuff in.

Actually I wonder why people use EB0 now that that's happened. Sure there are uncensoring patches, but the text is much better in the GBA game and it's basically a direct port outside of a few enhancements.

Slightly offtopic, but honestly Earthbound doesn't need a patch. The translation of the SNES game is very well done, one of the best on SNES compared to jobs we saw back then. Restoration patches do god's work to bring back the censorship though.

Not that guy, but I never needed to grind on Mother. If I die, I try out a different strategy/get a good supply of support items.

There's people that can beat the game without using any cheats on level 20 or so.

The story for Mother is a little better than Earthbound, having this whole arc about love and family, and the feelings the we have for our loved ones being both a driving force and our greatest weakness.

It does, however, suffer from the limitations of the system and the time, and is balls out harder than anything EB will throw at you.

Once you get to Mt Itoi, just stop fighting. Run from every battle. It doesn't matter how strong you are. Just stop.
