I've always thought a Naga or Lamia snake woman would have potential. Granted that's more of a fantasy sort of monster that would fit into Red Earth as opposed to the Halloween/Universal sort of monster Darkstalkers is based n, but I think it could work. Her tail would have plenty of potential for Darkstalkers-esque animations. Coiling it in front of her like a corn snake to block, coiling it into a spring below her to jump, wapping around the opponent like a boa constrictor for a command grab, and so on.

From what I remember reading of the All About books, Morrigans soul was split in THREE, not two, and sealed because it was said she'd grew out of control and potentially destroy the Makai. The second part of her soul formed its own consciousness and Jedah found her and gave her a body. She is very childish as a result because everything to do with a real body is a new experience to her, you can see this in her win quotes in Darkstalkers 3.

The rest is spot on, at the end of the game they merged back to one. You can even see references to this in other games like Marvel vs Capcom, where Morrigans intro pose is her and Lillith merging together (and one of her JP only win poses is Morrigan turning into a leather suit and a bound-up Lillith being hanged into the screen), or in Pocket Fighter where her mirror body super combo just summons Lillith instead of a 2nd Morrigan.

What happened with the third part of her soul was never elaborated upon because Capcom fucking sucks and if they'd ever try to solve a story cliffhanger it would lead to the game getting cancelled.

Killer bees are classic horror stuff, there have been several movies going as far back as 1967, a comic book supervillain, and more importantly there's actual real life species called killer bees.

Funny story, that. They are a cross-breed of European and African honeybees. The African bee produces much more honey, but they are also more aggressive as Africa never had bee keeping traditions, the hives just got smashed open and the honey stolen. So they naturally evolved to be pissed as fuck territorial bees who take no shit from anything.
So anyway this brazilian mad scientist dude tries crossing the african bee with the european one to hopefully make a hybrid which is peaceful like the European bee but produces more honey like the African bee.
The result was that he got a hyper-aggressive super bee even worse than the African bee. They follow their attackers much further, respond more quickly and in greater numbers, start stinging much sooner. They release a pheromone that puts the other bees in an attacking frenzy so if you piss one off, they all start stinging.

Basically if they sense that someone even thinks about fucking with them, they start fucking swarming. Hence why they are called killer bees. Their actual scientific name is Africanized Bee.

so yeah, q-bee absolutely does belong in Darkstalkers. Far more than a Lamia would, which is more like a classical monster - might as well put a dragon into the game then...

But anyway, to try and talk some gameplay, supposedly the Phobos/Aultbath matchup in Vampire Hunter is very much in Phobos's favor, but as a novice Phobos player I always seem to struggle against him. I have trouble dealing with his projectiles, and it seems like he can outpoke me at mid range with s.HK and such. His dash is so low that he can even limbo under low beam.

i'm pretty okay with it being dead. i don't trust modern capcom at all. and after replaying darkstalkers with a friend a while ago, i've definitely awakened to the idea a major part of this series charm is how it's 2D. and a lot of people are allergic to 2D for some reason these days. if capcom ever made a new one it would definitely be 3D and made in their epic lil RE engine. i like mvc3 morrigan but she isn't as fun to look at in motion compared to her sprites that were made like 25 years ago. hsien-ko and felicia themselves are also even less impressive compared to their original sprites.

Not true, Belial locked up Morrigans power so she doesn't destroy the world, Felicia only wants a safe home for her kind and maybe sing in musicals, Sasquatch only wants a safe place for his people and I think so does Rikuo. Victor and Hsienko are neutral too. Then there are a few who have to deal with their own curse and try holding back every day so they don't become a killer, with more or less success (Talbain, Donovan, Bishamon). Q-bee is literally an animal who doesn't really care much beyond food and reproduction. Huitzil as of the third game does everything to protect a kid he bonded with. BB Hood is a contract killer but isn't a genocidal maniac (unless she simply doesn't have the power to do so). I forgot what was the deal with Lord Raptor.

Really the only ones in the game who want to go apocalyptical are Jedah and Pyron. Donovan just wants to fuck Morrigan and maybe become the king of hell. Morrigan is only out there to have a good time. And the rest of the cast are not on their power level, lore wise, unless I forgot something.

It's partly due to technical issues. In the first game every single one of his frames of animation is made up of a bunch of individual parts layered together. That's how it's able to do stuff like having the accordion joints extend and retract, as well as have the forearms and hands rotate independently from everything else. It's a clever setup that allows for reuse of parts between frames of animation and such. But it came at a cost because the early CPS2 games' sprite drawing routines were not very optimized, and sprite RAM would get filled up really quickly as a result. That's why lots of the earlier CPS2 games have lag issues. So with each successive game they cut back on this and started spiriting Huitzil more like a normal character.

That doesn't really make sense because
1. most of the reduction is in stuff that requires actual drawn animation frames like his eyes closing, shoulders turning, arms turning, etc.. The joint animation was untouched.
2. Sentinel in COTA is half the size of the screen and uses the same technique, and it was also done in 1994
3. Super 8 from Armored Warriors has 8 individually animated limbs using the same joint animation and it was also a 1994 game (and then refined in Cyberbots in 1995). But, both of those games had EVERY single character, playable and enemy ones, use the same joint animation as opposed to individual frames. So they had plenty of mastery over this technique.

I think they just reduced all the individual frames to cut back on how much space his animation takes, since they kept cramming in more characters. It's why all the people from COTA lost half their animation in XvsSF too.
