It is funny but can undercut scenes that aren't meant to be funny, because you can't take something seriously when there's product placement.

I mean I guess it's not usually bad if it fits into the environment, like if you're in a modern setting. For some reason Dole and Duracell in Monkey Ball and Pikmin actually made me smile though.
>When has product placement ever ruined something?
But to answer your question, pic related from Alan Wake. You're going through a building that's under attack by the supernatural villains and shit's popping off and you go through a room with a tv that starts playing a full Verizon "can you hear me now?" commercial. I don't think you need to stay and watch it, but the first time you get there you kind of want to stay and see if there's a point to it, but there isn't.

product placement can work if done right, it's better to see coca cola at a store than a brand caled Kola Soda with a red logo. It's more distracting to see the fake brand.

it especially hurt Crazy Taxi since it was just cooler to drive to pizza hut and kfc than a generic pizza place and restaurant. It was part of the fun.

Its from Kaettekita Mario Bros (Mario Bros. Returns) for the FDS. It's mostly a port of the arcade game that's a bit more accurate than the original FC version. Its main thing was having a mode where getting high scores could earn you codes you could mail into Nintendo to participate in raffles. It had ads for Mario 3 (had come out a month earlier) and Nagatanien products (Food company with a focus on Curry and Furikake). Nagatanien was a co-publisher of the game and had already been doing promotions with Nintendo and Mario since '86. You can find other promotions they did together here: https://www.mariowiki.com/Nagatanien
