I commute by train and move around alot. I need something that will let me play simple classic nes, snes, gba, nds etc. I dont want a Joystick it just adds bulk and it will probably break in my pocket. I cant find anything that is small and convienent at all. anyone found such a product?

I'm not sure there is one without sticks, they all seem to copy the Joy-Con layout pretty closely. The one in your pic probably is the least bulky option, or this >>10084992 if you would consider carrying a separate device. It would save your phone some battery life at least.

yeah its looking as if thats the solution. thanks for the input, i didnt want a separate device since im already using it for turn based action titles and was just seeing if i could improve upon my current setup. and youre right the bluetooth would definitely eat my battery.

sorry if I wasnt clear, i would like to turn my phone into a PSP design of sorts but without any joysticks i need to be able to move around not setup and sit in one place with a table etc. the best thing ive found is this. but its just too much controller for nes to DS era games im looking to play

No one is going to make these things for phones without analog sticks since 99% of people who turn their phones into controllers are playing mobile Fortnite and COD, which needs the sticks. Unironically, a small separate controller will be better for you.

>> No.10085395

>>10085370
yeah even the joysticks look kinda like switch joycons which i tear up in no time at all to the point of stick drift and all. keeping this in a bag or my pocket would definitely do the same.
>>10085372
heck i might have to make something. I just know usually 3d printing something and stuffing parts in is probably just going to be as chunky as the backbone with the shitty joysticks.

Just spitballing here, but if you’re down to fab something and your main concern is damaging joysticks on something in your pocket, why not print a cap or lock for the sticks so they can’t move in your pocket? Won’t matter if they can’t move if you’re not using them anyways. Probably cheaper and easier than making your own grip from scratch.

its just suprising with the prevalence of emulation on the google playstore and now with sideloading iphone apps one of the first sideloadable apps ive seen was an emulator so im just asking where tf is the hardware for us? are we expected to just use the touch dpads and buttons like psychopaths?

You’re expected to buy a dedicated handheld that’s better in every way and nearly comparable in price to these expensive phone controllers.

The main concern is size. the pic is the imaginary product i had in my head. it wouldnt matter if it covers the screen with the pcbs behind the dpad and buttons because they wouldnt cover most 4:3 games of that era

i looked at this its actually a gameboy game cart reader then emus it onto the phone i figgured it would be bulky because of the cart reader

I cant fit that in my pocket, but i might end up doing this too considering i have other controllers and could prolly just buy the clip for one of those. i just think it would look really silly walking around with that in public, perhaps just asking to be stolen. i appreciate all the feedback tho regardless if its not what im looking for.

You need to balance functionality with the design, in honesty. You need something it could slot in to give the safety and sturdiness of walking around but this comes at the cost of comfort. I don't walking around with it so I will happily prefer the controller.

I've tried out a bunch of clip on phone controllers, like the Saitake stk-7007, Gamesir x2, Turtle Beach Atom, Razer Kishi and Moga XP7-X. I haven't seen any that don't include the analog sticks, so you might be stuck with that if you buy one.

Size wise I'd recommend the Turtle Beach Atom as it closes up into a square and seems like the smallest one when closed up. It's a little pricey though, 80-100, but I've seen a knockoff on Amazon for around 40 made by a company called Arvin. Pic related.

The Switch has pretty much doomed anything portable to being a split joypad. This is the upcoming Sony PS5 second screen streaming handheld.

Is there any reason you can't just carry a normal sized controller in a backpack with you? I carry a backpack with me almost everywhere I go, and going just about any place without it feels like playing an RPG game without an inventory. I spend close to three hours commuting there and back every day I work, and I just use a regular sized controller for emulation. Besides that, I have tiny ghoulish hands and something like the OP image looks like it would make my hands start hurting after a couple minutes

this is more an issue with the ridiculous size and aspect ratios of modern phones, how else are you going to mount controls

Because it would look dumb you'd have to carry one of those mounts to keep the phone in place like picrel. The best solution is just to go with a sony handheld or ds/3ds they can emulate the basics and the native libraries are good. A good phone controller might be one of those snes ones by 8bitdo but I don't know if they make them anymore and I found the input lag on them pretty bad but atleast there small.

>recommending outdated hardware WITH analog sticks to an anon who specifically doesn’t want them
I own multiple vita’s and DS’s, and I will say that my cheaper Anbernic handheld is better than either of them for emulation, except psp emulation on the vita, which is still alright for the price.
