I think it's sort of disappointing this game was released in 1991, so early in the SNES' life. Imagine how great it could have been if released in 1995 or 1994, and it could take full advantage of the console's capabilities. It's still a good game, but it sort of feels like a missed opportunity. Thoughts?

You could the same thing about LOZ/TAOL, which were also released early/middle in the NES lifespan. Look at how much more sophisticated Kirby's Adventure is than SMB.

Another game I'd have loved to see late in the SNES lifespan as opposed to the console it did come out it: Pokemon Red and Blue. Would have loved to see that as a full blown SNES game. the remakes kind of come close.

Seems like ALttP was developed right alongside SMW...both games have almost identical aesthetics. For the most part.

I think Zelda is supposed to be a second wave game. Mario is a release game then Zelda comes out the next season. It's the new Zeldas that are screwed up.

The thing is the Super FX chip came so late in the SNES' life that it didn't get to do the damage that it could have. This of course was when cartridges carried the power, which isn't what goes on in consoles today.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Honestly, LTTP is one of my top SNES games. What do you feel would have improved with another 3-4 years? The graphics?

Did you know that the maker of Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker was tapped by Miyamoto to marry the LttP engine to an enhancement chip and make a boss adventure game in 1996?

What are you talking about?
It's everything you could want from a sequel to the original Legend of Zelda.

Likewise Ocarina of Time was everything you could want from a sequel to A Link to the Past.

Majoras Mask felt more like a sequel to Link's Awakening.

>> No.1009179

>> No.1009252

Mario World and A Link to the Past are great games, but I think they definitely show being produced so early on the console. Both games have only decent production values. They don't have a lot of music, and it often sounds kind of muted (most of Mario World's songs are the same theme with different tempo). Graphically the games are also decent but not extraordinary. Still, I think Mario World suffered a bit more, it always felt kind of rushed to me, but it's still great.

Yoshi's Island didn't have a lot of music either, but that's because it was an enormous game and looked amazing. The music was also greatly composed. To me Yoshi's Island is way better than World.

>> No.1009536

I know Miyamoto felt that Mario World was rushed, did he say anything similar about ALttP?

I can't imagine how it could have been made much better. It has a ton of dungeons and a sizeable overworld.

Doesn't he say this about every Mario game?

But, I can totally understand. Even when I was a child, some aspects of SMW seemed a little "off." It felt unfinished.

these are my thoughts exactly. why did the snes only get one zelda title while every other nintendo console got at least 2?

also LttP is my favorite zelda

>> No.1009680

It would have been cool if near the end of the SNES lifespan, they made Zelda All-Stars.

All four Zelda games, with improved graphics but still keeping the gameplay intact.

I know there was -kinda- a SNES version of Zelda 1, but it had a lot of mechanical changes and the world map was only like half the size.

let me ask: do you guys think its cheap if, when playing ALttP, i often savewarp? like if i feel like getting to death mountain quickly, i just save and quick, and start back up at the death mountain cave? is that type of thing considered cheating, in a sense? i feel like, since you can start at links house, the sanctuary or the cave its often faster than walking across the map

No, I've utilized it back on the actual hardware when I played it as a kid. It doesn't get you out of anything, but if you don't feel like running through more useless shit, do it. You don't take any harm, but you don't pick up extra items or find shit you might come across that way, so it's kind of balanced. If you saved and quit you'd get put back there anyway, so whatever.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was one of my earliest introductions to the Zelda series. I'll be honest here, I wasn't born until 1992, making me not a part of the Super NES generation (my childhood console was the Nintendo 64) BUT, this was the second game from this series that I ever played. After playing it on the Game Boy Advance, not only did I receive an introduction to the Super Nintendo, but to a video game that I would replay constantly, even to this day. Had this game been released later, yeah, I think it would have been sweet to see what could have been done.

Okay, /vr, I'm not sure if anyone else has mad e a thread like this, but I'm incredibly curious as to what everyone thinks. For some reason, whenever I play Kirby's Adventure on my NES, I'm reminded of McDonald's, before they attempted to 'improve' the food. I guess I associate this restaurant with Kirby because growing up, I never seemed to own any Kirby video games. I would always end up playing and beating a Kirby video game whenever I stayed the night at a friends house, and we would usually be taken to eat out, mostly at McDonald's, where I was of course too glued to the game to eat. Maybe the color scheme just reminds me of 90s McDonald's for some odd reason, I dunno.

tl;dr I associate one of my childhood games with a restaurant, no matter how many times I play it. Does anyone else do this with games?

>> No.1013940

not restaurants but i for damn sure equate a lot of games to the music or tv show that was on in the background when i was playing them

Has anyone here checked Zelda Classic?

It's a PC emulation of Zelda I, and includes BS Zelda:

www.zeldaclassic.com/

You can also download a ton of user-made quests for it, plus you can make your own (which I just don't have the patience for - hard enough to complete a Doom level at the best of times).
