Is this black magic possible without discs? O_o

use an internal hdd or something similar.

ps2 has an hdd bay which you can install a hard drive into and load games off.

Can't I do that with an external one or a pen drive?

It would be very slow for most games and will have issues with FMV stuttering and some games may not work at all.

Assuming you have a fat model. An internal will have a much faster read speed than an external one and will not suffer from stuttering during fmv cutscenes or streamed voice acting.

Yup, mine is one of them fats, but I didn't wanna spend money on an internal hdd -_-

You need the hdd adapter (for fat ps2) and freemcboot or equivalent, there was another good mod but I forgot it's name

Are you willing to buy a network adapter or do you have one? Consider sharing your games over your home network to your PS2 via SMB. However, you're asking basic bitch google-able tech questions and using emoticons like a woman, so this is probably too advanced for you. External drives are too slow on PS2, though, so suck it up and learn SMB or buy an internal drive.

Bad faith troll. Any sort of PS2 piracy is too complicated for you, so fuck off.

I just wanted to play PS2 games without having to collect the original discs, but all this is too much for my smol brain @.@

Is it easier if I just burn then isos in a disc? Will this damage my PS2?

>>10079921
He doesn't play videogames.

>> No.10079938

I use a usb thumb drive to play games off of, if you stay away from the moviegame shit you should be good, never had issues during gameplay with stuttering and such.

Also you need an FMCB'd memory card ofc

Dude so many games have prohibitively long loadtimes over USB that aren't 'moviegames'. You care about playing games and not waiting, right? You're a coping fucking dummy who is dealing with it because you either didn't know or refuse to learn.

If it's a fat PS2, I highly highly suggest getting a network adapter that lets you install an internal HDD instead. It has been a while since I checked on the state of using a USB drive on a PS2, but when I last did it was a mess, huge compatibility issues and games load a lot slower due to the USB ports being slower than the disk drive, with some games having stuttering because it can't play videos off the drive fast enough.

op since you seem so dead set on the easiest route get a fmcb memory card with OPL on it
try your best to find out how to update OPL (google this) and after that just use a usb flash drive. Some games won't work, some games will be slow to load but work fine.

The FMCB memory cards are like $5 or something these days. USB drive a 64GB is like $10 right? Should be good for now so you can play some things but just know it's not perfect.

you seem to be completely incapable since you're not even looking at youtube or google so I suggest just buying a preloaded stick or card and play that

>> No.10080072

>>10080008
Do you even know how to setup your PS2 to play burned disks? And how to properly burn them? Or where to get decent non garbage-tier blank media? IMO it's much easier to load from a HDD if you have a fat model.

Would it technically be possible to install a modern USB port into a PS2 or is that the same level of skill required to make new CRT's and it would be prohibitively costly to do so?

>> No.10080170

>>10080147
>Would it technically be possible to install a modern USB port into a PS2

No, it has nothing to do with the physical port. USB 1.0 and 2.0 ports physically are the same, it's the underlying hardware that is different. You would have to wire up a completely different set of USB controller hardware to get 2.0 or faster speeds.... if the PS2's CPU can even keep up, and you are likely going to break a lot of existing software by doing that. It has nothing to do with "cost", it's more like arguing "Can you re-wire a Pentium 3 motherboard to accept a Pentium 4?"

>> No.10080181

>>10080147
The port isn’t the issue, it’s the processor/bios/many other hardware limitations of the ps2 that would bottleneck the speeds of a modern port. An internal drive is your best bet, especially since they now support Exfat partitions, which allows you to load games on to it simply by plugging it in to your PC.

>Can you re-wire a Pentium 3 motherboard to accept a Pentium 4?
You can.

If you already have an external HDD you can shuck it. Unless it's one of those devilish ones that come with USB port soldered to the board.

>> No.10080369

>>10079856
Do you already have the network adapter? If you don't want to fuck around with HDDs you can install games to an SD card, which I've found to be much more convenient (and probably longer-lasting). You need a male 44-pin to 40-pin IDE adapter, a 44-pin IDE to SD card adapter, and an SD card extension cable, all of which you can get on eBay for around $30 total. And then just use whatever SD card you want.

>> No.10080375

USB 1.1 is slow as fuck. HDDs are much better for load times/streaming.

If you don't want to go with an internal hdd. (I'm making one for my brother as I type this, its super simple.)

This is another route i tried. That uses memory cards, but the compatibility is not the best.
