Completely baseless guess here, but I'm now imagining that the original script simply had a line about the people of Zeal noticing this huge concentration of energy and using that to advance their civilization. This got confused by the translator who interpreted it as Lavos advancing civilzation deliberately, when really it was more like civilization was using him as a battery while he sucked up all the energy. Any scholars of CT scripts that can verify?
