It is April 1996. You are Sega of America boss Tom Kalinske. You have approximately 400,000 32X consoles and over 900,000 32X games in the warehouse, with no back orders to fulfill.

What do you do?

Who cares about the 32X, we are killing Sony in Japan with the Saturn. I went to Akihabra and they're all sold out of Saturns. This is why we will eventually win in America.
>Weren't they sold out because they were underproduced?
No!
Anyway, I'm gonna go over some Father's Day ads with the guys. It should be in the budget. Gotta sell those Nomads!

Too late. 1996 was too late to save Sega. You would need to back at least 2 years earlier and redesign the Saturn. And cancel the 32x.

>> No.10076272

>>10076262
>redesign the Saturn
Not really possible. SoJ were pig-headedly determined to go ahead with that design, come hell or high water. Not least because they had been working on it since 1992.
>And cancel the 32x.
More specifically, take a running shit on SoJ, and tell them that, since the Saturn is such an overcomplicated pile of junk, you need all the available resources to support it to the best of your abilities. You're already stretched like a fat guy's swimming trunk waistband with Genesis, Sega CD, Game Gear, and Pico.
Basically, Sega needed to pull a 2009-Sony, if they hoped to get any modicum of marketshare with the Saturn.

Hypothetically, how much would Sega get from the insurance company, if there was a mysterious warehouse fire that burnt everything down. Except for the Saturn inventory, which would coincidentally have been moved somewhere else.

If you said 1994 or even 1995, I would say plop a few Sonic games on it, maybe get EA and Activision more involved, throw Konami some money for Castlevania Bloodletting and maybe give Ubisoft a hand with Rayman. By 1996 though it was already discontinued and the N64 was already out.

Bury them in New Mexico next to E.T. where they belong.

>> No.10076556

I would put them in the box with all of the extra genesis consoles we overproduced and make a bundle out of it. Stick virtua fighter in the box and market it as cheap cutting edge 3d with an image of Sony execs panicking with piles of burning money on the box. When junior asks for playstation, mommy grabs the better deal, junior is happy with virtua fighter, and then he is stuck with fun genesis games until next year

Also I get Namco on board and we create the Namco32X and take the industry by storm.

Put it as pack-in in every Genesis II and call it "Genesis 32". Make one SKU with only the consoles, and another with DooM and Chaotix.
Same price: double the power.

Step 1: Buy a bunch of empty SNES console and game boxes, stuff them full of 32X consoles and games, and sell them to unwitting buyers.
Step 2: Profit.
Step 3: ???

I never understood how the sega genesis managed to be as popular as it was. I mean, it literally sucked ass, and when I played a bunch of their games on an emulator, even the popular ones... I eventually got bored and deleted the entire folder.

Add ONE more expansion for 3/4 that price and port at least 100 arcade and pc games for both 32x and 33x (not sure of the name)

>> No.10078140

It could have been sold as a Saturn expansion with an adapter. The Saturn actually reads genesis accessories fine as long as you have an adapter for the controller port pins. Not that you would really need genesis controllers and stuff I guess.

That could have worked if it was planned as a Saturn add on. If the 32X already launched for Genesis the hype would be gone by then.
